Career & Market Insight

This is a field sales engineering role with a well-established FTSE100 industrial engineering company, making it a strong platform for building a long-term B2B technical sales career. Watson-Marlow/Spirax Group's global footprint (116 countries) and blue-chip customer base add meaningful brand credibility to your CV.

Compensation: No salary figure is disclosed, but UK Sales Engineer roles in process/industrial equipment typically range from £45,000–£65,000 OTE, often with a company car or car allowance. The "competitive salary" language and FTSE100 backing suggest mid-to-upper market rates, though candidates should probe this at interview.

Skills developed:

  • Consultative and solution-based selling in high-value B2B environments
  • Technical depth in fluid management, peristaltic pumping, and process industries
  • CRM pipeline management and commercial forecasting
  • Key account management across regulated industries (pharma, food & beverage, water treatment)

These skills are highly transferable and in strong demand across industrial automation, life sciences equipment, and process technology sectors.

Green flags: Autonomous role structure, a company with genuine DEI commitments (15 days caregiver leave, gender-neutral parental leave), and EMEA support functions to offload non-commercial tasks. The FTSE100 parent provides career progression and structured development.

Watch points: The 60–70% travel requirement is demanding and can affect work-life balance. No mention of bonus structure or OTE transparency — clarify commission/incentive structure before accepting.
