Career & Market Insight

This is an online adjunct or full-time faculty position in Accounting at APUS, a large, accredited online university serving over 100,000 students — primarily military and public service professionals. It's a meaningful niche for educators who want to serve a mission-driven student population.

Compensation: Salary details are not disclosed in the posting. Online adjunct faculty at US universities typically earn $1,500–$3,500 per course section, while full-time online faculty may earn $50,000–$80,000 annually depending on rank and institution. APUS's scale suggests competitive adjunct rates, but candidates should inquire directly about per-course compensation.

Skills developed:

  • Online pedagogical design and the Community of Inquiry (CoI) Framework — an increasingly valued credential in higher ed.
  • Asynchronous course facilitation and student engagement at scale.
  • Scholarly research and discipline-specific professional engagement (encouraged).

Green flags: Fully remote from day one; structured onboarding certifications (APUS110, APUS501) provide clear professional development milestones; large student base means teaching volume and portfolio building.

Red flags / watch-outs: Benefits details are not listed inline — candidates must visit an external URL. The role disclaims liability for home workspace injuries, which is standard but worth noting. Doctoral degree is required, limiting the applicant pool but also signaling the role is for serious academics. Weekend engagement is expected, which may affect work-life balance.

Best suited for CPAs or CMAs with doctoral credentials looking to build an academic career or supplement consulting income.
