BS/MD Admissions Consultant - Physician Career Growth in Columbus
Career & Market Insight
This role is well-suited for practicing physicians or retired clinicians looking to diversify their income and give back through mentorship—without committing to a full-time career pivot. The part-time, contract structure means low barrier to entry alongside an existing medical career.
Compensation: No salary is listed, which is typical for 1099 consulting roles in this space. Independent admissions consultants at reputable edtech platforms typically earn $75–$150/hour, though rates vary by platform structure. Prospective applicants should clarify the compensation model (hourly, per-student package, or revenue share) before committing.
Skills developed:
- Admissions strategy and educational consulting — a growing niche with strong demand
- Mentorship and coaching competencies transferable to academic or clinical leadership roles
- Written communication and editorial skills through essay feedback
Green flags: Inspira is VC-backed (Craft Ventures, Quiet Capital) and positions itself as a market leader—lending credibility to the brand association. The mission-driven framing around democratizing access is a genuine differentiator from boutique consulting firms.
Potential red flags: The posting lacks compensation details and provides no information about student load, minimum hour commitments, or support infrastructure. As a 1099 arrangement, there are no benefits, job security, or guaranteed hours. Physicians considering this role should clarify expected workload and platform fees before signing on.
