Career & Market Insight

This part-time role at Think Academy — a subsidiary of NYSE-listed TAL Education Group — offers a low-risk entry point into Ed-Tech tutoring with a credible, large-scale platform. It's well-suited for educators looking for flexible supplemental income, but has limitations as a primary career move.

Compensation context: At $20–25/hr, the rate is competitive for part-time online tutoring but below what experienced credentialed teachers or math specialists typically earn in private tutoring ($40–80/hr). The twice-yearly salary review is a meaningful perk for a part-time role.

Skills developed:

  • Online pedagogy and one-on-one differentiated instruction
  • CCSS-aligned curriculum delivery (valued in US K-12 ed-tech market)
  • Experience on a global Ed-Tech platform (TAL serves 6M+ students)
  • Bilingual instruction skills if you're a Mandarin speaker — a niche differentiator

Green flags: Established parent company, structured curriculum, biannual promotion reviews, clear scope of work.

Yellow flags: The role mentions "project testing" — suggesting some curriculum work may be experimental or evolving. Under 20 hrs/week limits benefits and career momentum. No mention of professional development, mentorship, or advancement pathways beyond pay increases.

Best suited for credentialed teachers, education students, or math professionals seeking flexible supplemental work aligned with CCSS standards.

Job Type: Part-Time (less than 20 hrs/week)
