SMB Sales Rep at Race - Grow Your B2B Sales Career in Columbus
Career & Market Insight
This is a solid entry-to-mid-level B2B sales role at a regional fiber ISP. At $80,000 flat base, it sits slightly below market for SMB sales reps in California's telecom/tech sector — Glassdoor and LinkedIn data suggest $85k–$100k base is more typical for 2–3+ years of experience in CA. The absence of a mentioned commission or OTE structure is notable and worth clarifying during the interview process, as most B2B sales roles include variable compensation.
Skills you'll develop:
- Consultative B2B selling to SMB decision-makers — highly transferable to SaaS, fintech, or enterprise sales
- CRM pipeline management (Salesforce, HubSpot-type tools)
- Proposal writing, pricing negotiation, and deal closing
- Market research and competitive analysis
Green flags: Company-paid medical/dental (not just subsidized), 401k with 4% match, 11 paid holidays plus a paid birthday, and a small-company culture with stated promotion pathways. The 30-year operating history signals stability.
Potential concerns: No mention of commission structure or OTE — unusual for a sales role. The salary is fixed at $80k with no stated range, which may limit earnings upside. Additionally, the role requires a valid driver's license and significant local travel, which could affect work-life balance.
Career trajectory: This role suits someone early in their B2B sales career who wants telecom/ISP industry experience as a stepping stone toward larger enterprise sales roles or sales management.
Location: Remote — California Only.
Work will be primarily performed remotely from a home office 5 days per week. Occasional travel to and work from other Race offices or off-site locations may be required.
Compensation: $80,000 USD per year
Benefits: Company-paid Medical and Dental | Free Fiber Internet Service
