Sales Director EdTech JoVE - $180k+ Leadership Role in Columbus
Career & Market Insight
This Regional Sales Director position at JoVE represents a strong senior leadership opportunity in the EdTech/academic publishing niche. Here is what career-minded professionals should consider:
Compensation vs. market: The $180–190k base with uncapped commissions is competitive for a regional director managing a team of 9 in EdTech/SaaS. Industry benchmarks for comparable roles typically range from $160–210k base, so this sits solidly in the upper-mid range. Total OTE (on-target earnings) could reach $240–270k+ depending on commission structure.
Skills you will develop:
- Strategic sales leadership at scale (9 AEs, North America's largest market)
- Pipeline management and CRM analytics (Salesforce/HubSpot expertise)
- Cross-functional collaboration with marketing and customer success
- Renewal and expansion revenue strategy in a subscription model
Green flags: JoVE's strong promotion-from-within culture, 1,000+ institutional clients including elite universities, and global presence signal a stable, growth-stage company. The mission-driven angle (science education) can be a strong retention factor.
Potential red flags: The posting requires both 5+ years leading EdTech sales teams and 10+ years total sales experience — a narrow talent pool that may indicate a highly competitive hiring process. The fast-paced environment signal is worth probing in interviews regarding work-life balance expectations.
Overall, this is a high-impact leadership role well-suited for a senior EdTech sales professional looking to own a major market at a mission-driven, globally recognized company.
