Math Competition Tutor Role at Think Academy US in Columbus
Career & Market Insight
This is a part-time contract-style tutoring role best suited for early-career math educators, graduate students, or competition math enthusiasts looking to monetize their skills while keeping a flexible schedule.
Compensation context: At $20–25/hr, the pay is competitive for entry-level online tutoring, though experienced competition math tutors can command $50–100+/hr on independent platforms. The bi-annual salary review is a green flag, suggesting structured growth potential within the organization.
Skills you'll develop:
- Competition math pedagogy (AMC 8/10, AIME, MathCounts) — a niche but highly sought-after skill set in the Ed-Tech sector
- One-on-one instructional design and student progress tracking
- Cross-cultural communication (Mandarin bilingualism is preferred, signaling a Chinese-American student demographic)
Company signals: Think Academy is backed by TAL Education Group (NYSE: TAL), a large, publicly traded company with over 6 million weekly users. This provides stability but also means a structured corporate environment despite the startup-style US subsidiary branding.
Green flags: Clear scope, structured program, promotion pathways. Watch for: Limited hours cap (under 20 hrs/week) means income ceiling is low — treat this as a side role or stepping stone, not a primary income source.
Job Type: Part-Time (less than 20 hrs/week)
Location: Remote
Intended Start Date: As soon as possible
