Career & Market Insight

This role offers an accessible entry point into the EdTech sector — one of the fastest-growing segments in education — backed by TAL Education Group, a NYSE-listed company with global scale (6 million+ students weekly).

Compensation context: The $35/hr teaching rate is above average for part-time K-2 online tutoring (market rate: $20–$30/hr at similar platforms). Administrative hours at $16–$22/hr are standard. At 20–30 hours/week, annualized gross is roughly $28,000–$45,000 — appropriate for part-time but below full-time teaching salaries.

Skills developed:

  • Online curriculum delivery and EdTech platform proficiency
  • Early childhood math pedagogy (high demand as STEM education grows)
  • Parent communication and stakeholder management
  • Data-driven student progress tracking

Green flags:

  • Paid training program — rare for part-time roles; signals investment in teacher development
  • Clear promotion pathway to management roles with bonuses
  • W-2 classification (not 1099) provides legal employee protections
  • Backed by a large, established parent company

Yellow flags:

  • Weekend hours are mandatory — work-life balance may suffer for those valuing traditional weekends
  • Class load and income are tied to student satisfaction scores, creating some income unpredictability
  • Part-time classification limits benefit access typical of full-time teaching roles

This role suits recent graduates, career changers exploring education, or credentialed teachers seeking supplemental income in the growing online tutoring market.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I truly work from any country in this remote role?
The job posting states "work from anywhere," but this is a W-2 position with a US employer, meaning you must have US work authorization. Additionally, fixed teaching hours of 2–8 PM (likely US time zones) on Thursdays through Sundays create real timezone constraints for candidates outside the Americas.
What is the pay rate for this position?
Teaching hours are compensated at $35/hr, while administrative hours — including lesson prep, grading, and parent communication — are paid at $16–$22/hr. This is a part-time W-2 role totaling 20–30 hours per week.
Are weekends required for this position?
Yes, working on weekends is required. Teaching hours run approximately 2:00 PM–8:00 PM Thursday through Sunday. Non-teaching hours have more flexibility.
Do I need a teaching license or certification to apply?
No teaching license is explicitly required. A bachelor's degree or higher is needed, with Education or STEM-related majors preferred. Prior math teaching experience is listed as a plus, not a requirement.
Is there opportunity for career advancement in this role?
Yes — teachers who consistently deliver high-quality classes may be promoted to management roles, which come with additional performance bonuses, increased responsibilities, and enhanced benefits.
