Senior Sales Engineer - Zscaler Zero Trust Career in Columbus
Career & Market Insight
This is a senior-level presales engineering role at one of the most prominent names in cloud security — Zscaler is a publicly traded, high-growth company (NASDAQ: ZS) with a strong market position in Zero Trust and SASE. Landing here adds significant weight to a cybersecurity resume.
Compensation vs. market: The $154K–$221K base range is competitive-to-strong for a Senior SE in the US, and the role explicitly excludes commission and equity. On-target earnings (OTE) with variable compensation could push total comp well above $250K–$300K at this level — a meaningful upside to negotiate.
Skills developed here are in high demand:
- Zero Trust architecture and SASE/SSE frameworks — among the fastest-growing segments in enterprise security
- Enterprise consultative selling (Proof of Value leadership, executive presentations)
- AI-integrated workflows — Zscaler explicitly values candidates who use AI tools to amplify output
- Cloud-native security platform expertise (a transferable, vendor-agnostic skill)
Green flags: Zscaler has a clear SE career ladder, strong brand recognition for future roles, and emphasis on impact over hierarchy. The culture signals high autonomy paired with high accountability.
Potential red flags: The role description repeats some responsibilities (running Proof of Value, collaboration) across multiple sections, suggesting a template-heavy posting. The "South Majors" territory implies a demanding enterprise quota environment — confirm quota attainment rates and ramp expectations before accepting.
Preferred certs (CISSP, CCSP, CCNP) are valuable beyond Zscaler — investing in these while in-role is a strong career accelerator.
