Procurement Counsel at Mixpanel | In-House Legal Career in Columbus
Career & Market Insight
This Procurement Counsel role at Mixpanel is a strong early-career in-house legal opportunity (1–3 years experience required) at a well-funded, growth-stage SaaS company. Backed by Andreessen-Horowitz, Sequoia, and Bain Capital with $277M raised, Mixpanel is past startup chaos but still dynamic enough to offer broad, high-impact work.
Compensation context: No salary is disclosed, but in-house counsel at this level at a Series C/D-stage tech company typically earns $110K–$160K USD depending on geography, with equity upside. This is competitive relative to law firm associate salaries at the 1–3 year mark, especially given the better work-life balance typically afforded by in-house roles.
Skills you'll build:
- AI contract law — one of the fastest-growing legal specializations right now
- SaaS vendor negotiation and data privacy (GDPR, CCPA) compliance
- Cross-functional influence and business partnering — rare skills for early-career lawyers
- Contract process automation and legal ops tooling
Green flags: Broad scope (not siloed), direct stakeholder access, AI-forward legal work, and a collaborative culture. The "low ego" language and emphasis on versatility suggest a psychologically safe environment for junior attorneys to grow.
Watch for: Quarter-end intensity and a "pitch in for anything" expectation may indicate a lean legal team. This is typical for growth-stage companies but worth clarifying headcount and team structure in the interview. Overall, a high-upside role for someone wanting to fast-track their in-house legal career.
Headquarters: Mexico City, Mexico (Remote)

- Stay informed of emerging laws, regulations, and judicial decisions relevant to our business; conduct thorough research to understand implications and communicate necessary changes to controls, policies, and procedures to appropriate parties.
- Prioritize and triage a high volume of requests balancing risk, criticality, and resource constraints.
- Manage escalations and collaborate across other teams to provide counsel regarding the business environment and objectives.
- Support and manage a variety of ad hoc projects with the Legal team as they arise; be extremely versatile, highly responsive, and pitch in for anything needed in the Legal department, even if it's unfamiliar or outside your usual scope.
We're Looking For Someone Who:
- Holds a JD degree or equivalent from an accredited school, along with the necessary professional licensing to practice law.
- Has 1–3 years of relevant experience, with specific experience negotiating SaaS agreements.
- Has direct experience with a variety of legal matters, including strategic business agreements, information security and compliance, intellectual property rights, and privacy-related matters including negotiating data protection agreements and advising on data privacy questions and concerns.
- Has familiarity with legal and commercial issues arising from AI and machine learning technologies, including experience reviewing and negotiating AI-related contract terms such as data usage rights, model training limitations, and liability allocation for AI outputs.
- Possesses strong negotiating skills with both legal and commercial issues, and a demonstrated ability to create legal, defensive, or proactive strategies.
- Has excellent knowledge and understanding of contract law and basic corporate law.
- Is a champion of change with a proven ability to build operationally excellent processes and practices.
- Has strong interpersonal and presentation skills, with the ability to develop a strong rapport and working relationship with business counterparts across the enterprise.
