Career & Market Insight

Compensation Benchmarking: The $165K–$221K total comp range (base + equity + bonus) is competitive for a Senior Data Engineer in the US market. Industry benchmarks place senior data engineers at $150K–$200K in top-tier tech, so Doximity's ceiling of $221K is above average — especially meaningful given the healthcare/AI domain premium.

Skills You'll Build: This role develops a rare combination of skills in high demand:

  • Healthcare data engineering — a niche with limited supply and growing regulatory complexity (HIPAA, HL7, FHIR).
  • ML/AI pipeline infrastructure — supporting clinical AI products puts you at the intersection of two booming fields.
  • Asynchronous systems design — streaming, multithreading, and async APIs are increasingly central to real-time data architectures.

Culture & Growth Signals: Doximity is a publicly traded company (NYSE: DOCS) with a profitable, mature product — not a pre-revenue startup. This means stability but potentially slower iteration than early-stage companies. The 65% distributed team and strong engineering blog culture suggest a thoughtful, documentation-oriented environment.

Green Flags: Structured mentorship, open-source contributions, and a clear onboarding process signal investment in engineer growth. The explicit "product mindset" requirement means you'll develop business acumen alongside technical skills.

Watch For: The role requires both senior engineering judgment and strong cross-functional communication — it leans toward a staff-adjacent scope, so confirm leveling expectations during interviews.

Headquarters: San Francisco, CA or Remote (U.S.)

Location: This role is remote in the United States, Canada, or some countries in South America.

Visa sponsorship is not available for this role.
