Database Administrator (Secret Clearance) - $170K in Columbus
Career & Market Insight
Compensation & Market Positioning: The $105,000–$170,000 range is competitive for a cleared DBA role. Federal contractor DBAs with a Secret clearance typically earn a 15–25% premium over commercial equivalents. The upper end ($170K) reflects senior-level seniority and in-depth IC/DoD customer knowledge.
Skills & Career Development: This role reinforces high-demand capabilities:
- Oracle, PL/SQL, SQL Server — perennially in-demand in both federal and commercial sectors
- Database schema management and large-scale database administration at enterprise level
- Federal security and compliance practices (DISA STIGs, RMF) — a niche that commands clearance premiums
Green Flags:
- TekSynap is a growing federal IT contractor — stable revenue from multi-year government contracts
- Primarily remote work with low travel (<10%) signals good work-life balance for a cleared role
- Comprehensive benefits package including disability plans and 401K
Red Flags / Considerations:
- The clearance requirement is a high barrier to entry but also a strong career moat once obtained
- Federal contractor roles can be contract-dependent — ask about contract runway and re-compete risk
- Limited approved states may constrain future geographic flexibility
This is a strong fit for cleared IT professionals seeking stable, well-compensated remote work within the federal ecosystem.
