Career & Market Insight

Compensation Well Above Market: The $150,900–$268,500 range is exceptionally broad and reflects government contract labor categories. Mid-senior UI/UX designers in tech typically earn $110K–$160K; the upper end here reflects the TS/SCI clearance premium, which can add $20K–$50K annually in defense markets. If you hold an active clearance, this is a strong compensation opportunity.

Unique Career Niche — Defense UX: This role sits at the intersection of UX design and security compliance (RMF/ATO processes, Body of Evidence documentation). This is a rare and highly marketable skill set with limited competition. It opens doors to similar roles at Booz Allen Hamilton, Leidos, SAIC, and other major defense contractors.

Skills You'll Build:

  • Security accreditation workflows (RMF, ATO) — highly valued in GovTech
  • TAK Product Center ecosystem experience (ATAK/WinTAK — DoD situational awareness tools)
  • Compliance-driven design documentation (BOE artifacts)
  • Stakeholder management in high-security, mission-critical environments

Green Flags: MANTECH is a publicly traded, established defense contractor (est. 1968) with stable DoD contracts — strong job security. The fully remote structure signals a mature distributed-work culture.

Watch-Outs: The CISSP preferred qualification for a UX role is unusual and suggests a heavy compliance burden that may overshadow pure design work. The "future opportunity" label means the role isn't immediately available — hiring timelines could extend months. Career growth into pure product design (non-defense) may require re-tooling given the specialized compliance focus.
