Career & Market Insight

This Territory Manager role at Halter sits at an exciting intersection of agriculture, hardware, and SaaS sales — a niche with growing demand and very few experienced practitioners. The skills you'll build are highly transferable and increasingly valuable as agtech investment surges globally.

Compensation context: The $140,000–$165,000 OTE is competitive for a field sales role in agtech. Comparable territory manager OTEs in agtech or B2B SaaS typically range from $110K–$160K, so Halter is at or slightly above market. Keep in mind the base/commission split is not disclosed — commission-heavy structures carry income variability risk.

Career development signals:

  • You'll gain rare expertise in precision agriculture and virtual fencing technology — a first-mover advantage in a space that's just beginning to scale in the US.
  • Cross-functional collaboration with Product, Support, and Onboarding teams means exposure well beyond a traditional sales role.
  • The ESOP is a meaningful wealth-building opportunity if Halter continues on its current VC-backed growth trajectory (Founders Fund + Bessemer is a strong signal).

Green flags: Tier 1 investors, strong mission, unlimited PTO, generous parental leave, $750 personal growth fund, and a culture that values autonomy. Red flags to watch: "High-growth targets," "rocket ship" culture language, and the intensity of a full territory ownership role suggest this will be demanding. Best suited for someone who thrives under pressure and genuinely loves the agricultural industry.

About the Role

Ever dream about being in tech but aren't quite ready to trade in your cowboy boots? Look no further than Halter! As the leading provider of virtual fencing technology, Halter is on a mission to enable 50% of the world's landmass to be more productive and sustainable. This role is paramount for our growth aspirations and will enable us to continue making an impact on ranches across the US.

As a Territory Manager at Halter, you will play a critical role in driving new business growth and ensuring customer success within your designated territory. You will be responsible for executing sales strategies, building strong customer relationships, and meeting ambitious growth targets — all while acting as Halter's on-the-ground representative. This role requires a proactive and hands-on approach, with a focus on both expansion and long-term customer satisfaction.

Working closely with cross-functional teams including Product, Support, and Customer Onboarding, you'll share field insights to ensure Halter's technology continues to meet the needs of US farmers.

Your day-to-day could include being on horseback helping customers gather their cattle, traversing pastures on a side-by-side, talking about how Halter could benefit their operations, or attending industry events like CattleCon or local Livestock Association meetups.

This role covers the Missouri River South region. Frequent travel is required as part of this role.

What Your Day Could Look Like

  • Prospecting New Business: Driving up driveways, attending local cattle auctions, and meeting with Livestock, Cattlemen's, and Stockmen's associations. Building a new business pipeline through outbound lead generation, fielding inbound leads in a timely manner, and balancing administrative tasks with in-field activities.

  • In-Field Sales: Getting your hands and boots dirty. Halter is best discussed over coffee at a kitchen table, in the saddle, or on a side-by-side in a pasture. Helping potential customers before diving into the value of Halter — and dropping off coffee during calving season.

  • Expanding Existing Opportunities: Always looking for new opportunities, including expanding existing customers with Halter. Finding new ways to increase value over time through upsell and relationship growth.

  • Hitting Sales Targets: High-growth sales targets don't scare you. You're an expert pipeline manager, comfortable unqualifying leads and managing today's deals while keeping next month in your sights.

  • Customer Account Management: Maintaining close relationships after the sale to ensure ongoing satisfaction, provide support, and address challenges. Ensuring a smooth handoff from sales to customer onboarding and deployment.

  • Territory Ownership: Owning an entire territory with high accountability — leaving no stone unturned. Building lasting relationships with regional agricultural groups and high-level stakeholders from local, state, and federal agencies.

  • Customer Onboarding: Actively owning the end-to-end customer experience during onboarding and deployment of Halter's product, ensuring a smooth transition from sales to implementation.

  • Field Learnings & Feedback: Serving as the primary point of contact for gathering customer feedback in your territory, advocating for what your customers need.

  • Collaborating with Support Teams: Partnering across Halter to resolve customer issues quickly, escalating problems as needed, and ensuring customers feel fully supported.

  • Attending Industry Events: Generating leads and deepening relationships with existing customers at relevant industry and Halter events. Participating in demonstrations and networking to expand Halter's market influence.

  • Contributing to the US Sales Strategy: Working with the broader team to optimize and evolve the sales process for the US market, driving greater efficiencies as the company scales.

You'll Be Great If You Exhibit

  • Driven Attitude & Communication Skills: Results-driven, motivated, and adaptable. Well-prepared and skilled at communicating with customers and internal teams alike. Proactive — you don't wait to act.

  • Ranching / Cattle Experience: You know the ropes (and the reins) of ranching or cattle operations, understanding the unique challenges of the industry.

  • Sales & Customer Success Expertise: A strong history of creating new business opportunities, negotiating value-based sales conversations, and building lasting customer relationships. Skilled at upselling and driving long-term success.

  • Territory Management Experience: Experience managing a large territory with a balanced focus on sales and customer success, ideally within agriculture or technology.

  • Problem Solving & Collaboration: Resourceful and quick-thinking, working well with cross-functional teams to address challenges and drive solutions.

  • Willingness to Travel: Frequent travel within your territory to engage with customers and prospects.

Bonus Skills

  • Familiarity with precision agriculture or virtual fencing technologies.

  • Background in customer-facing roles within agriculture technology.

  • Background in selling software (SaaS) solutions in a B2B environment.

Our Benefits

  • Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP): Own a part of Halter and share in our growth and success.

  • 401(k): 100% match on the first 3% contributed, plus 50% match on the next 2% (up to a 4% employer match), with immediate vesting.

  • Comprehensive Health Benefits: Medical, dental, and vision coverage starting the first day of the month after you join (with most premiums covered, including 100% of employee-only health premiums on select plans).
