Career & Market Insight

This is a senior-level, high-impact field sales role at an early-stage MedTech company commercializing a genuinely differentiated robotic surgical platform. For the right candidate, it offers strong career upside.

Compensation & Market Context: No salary is listed, but Area Sales Manager roles in surgical robotics (think Intuitive Surgical, Medtronic, CMR Surgical comps) typically range from $120K–$160K base with $200K–$280K+ OTE at quota. Early-stage companies like Distalmotion may offer lower base but equity upside — worth negotiating explicitly.

Career development signals:

  • Surgical robotics is one of the fastest-growing segments in MedTech — experience here is highly transferable.
  • Working at a startup/launch-stage company builds entrepreneurial skills: territory creation, KOL development, market seeding — all premium resume markers.
  • The role spans ASCs, IDNs, and academic centers, giving broad healthcare system exposure valuable for future Director/VP Sales paths.

Green flags: Distalmotion has a commercially cleared product with real hospital customers in both the U.S. and Europe — lower risk than a pure pre-revenue startup. The DEXTER system targets underserved ASC/HOPD markets, a high-growth segment.

Red flags to probe: Sales cycle length for capital robotics equipment can be 12–24 months; ask about territory pipeline maturity and existing installed base. Also clarify equity/stock option structure, as this is not mentioned in the posting.

About Distalmotion:

Distalmotion is a global MedTech company with a mission to expand access to the benefits of robotic surgery through simplified and flexible robotic technology. Its DEXTER® robotic surgical system empowers more surgeons and sites of care—including hospital outpatient departments (HOPDs) and ambulatory surgical centers (ASCs)—to adopt robotic-assisted minimally invasive surgery.

Designed to integrate seamlessly into existing surgical workflows, DEXTER is easily moved, quickly set up, and adaptable to operating rooms of any size. The system is commercially available in the United States and Europe. Distalmotion is headquartered in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Position Overview:

Distalmotion is seeking a high-performing Area Sales Manager to drive adoption of the DEXTER® robotic surgical system within a defined U.S. territory — North CA (North of Fresno) and Portland, Oregon. • Deliver compelling product presentations and demonstrations that clearly articulate the clinical and economic value of the DEXTER robotic surgical system.
  • Develop and maintain a robust pipeline of opportunities and accurately manage activities within the CRM system.
  • Partner closely with Clinical, Marketing, Training, and Customer Success teams to ensure exceptional customer experience and successful account launches.
  • Identify and cultivate key opinion leaders (KOLs) who can support broader market adoption.
  • Attend regional and national conferences, industry meetings, and customer events to increase market awareness and generate demand.
  • Drive utilization growth and customer satisfaction within the installed base.
  • Provide market intelligence, competitive insights, and customer feedback to support commercial strategy.
