AgTech Territory Manager – $165K OTE Sales Career in Columbus
Career & Market Insight
This Territory Manager role at Halter is a compelling opportunity for sales professionals who want to combine AgTech and field sales at a high-growth, venture-backed startup with serious institutional backing (Founders Fund, Bessemer, BOND).
Compensation context: An OTE of $140,000–$165,000 is competitive for a field sales territory manager role in the US, particularly in an emerging category like virtual fencing/precision agriculture. This sits above median for agricultural sales roles and aligns with mid-market SaaS territory manager benchmarks, reflecting the technical complexity and growth stage of the company.
Career development signals:
- You'll build rare expertise at the intersection of AgTech, SaaS sales, and precision agriculture — a niche that is growing rapidly with strong tailwinds.
- The end-to-end ownership model (prospecting → onboarding → account management) develops a full-cycle sales skillset, making you highly employable across AgTech, hardware-SaaS, and field sales roles.
- Direct input into US sales strategy means early-stage strategic influence — valuable for career progression into Sales Director or VP of Sales tracks.
Culture signals: Halter reads as a high-performance, mission-driven startup. Phrases like "rocket ship" and "love that it's hard" signal a demanding environment with high expectations. The ESOP, immediate 401(k) vesting, 16-week parental leave, and $750 growth fund suggest a mature benefits philosophy for a company of this stage — green flags for long-term retention. The main red flag to assess: solo territory roles at fast-scaling startups can be isolating; clarify team support structures during interviews.

About the Role
As the leading provider of virtual fencing technology, Halter is on a mission to enable 50% of the world's landmass to be more productive and sustainable. This role is paramount for our growth aspirations and will enable us to continue making an impact on ranches across the US.
As a Territory Manager at Halter, you will play a critical role in driving new business growth and ensuring customer success within your designated territory. You will be responsible for executing sales strategies, building strong customer relationships, and meeting ambitious growth targets — all while acting as Halter's on-the-ground representative. This role requires a proactive and hands-on approach, with a focus on both expansion and long-term customer satisfaction.
Working closely with cross-functional teams including Product, Support, and Customer Onboarding, you'll share field insights to ensure Halter's technology continues to meet the needs of US farmers.
Your day-to-day could include being on horseback helping customers gather their cattle, traversing pastures on a side-by-side, talking about how Halter could benefit their operations, or attending industry events like CattleCon or local Livestock Association meetups.
This role covers the Missouri Boot Heel region. Frequent travel is required as part of this role.
What Your Day Could Look Like
Prospecting New Business: Driving up driveways, attending local cattle auctions, meeting with Livestock, Cattlemen's, and Stockmen's associations, and building your new business pipeline through outbound lead generation. Fielding inbound leads in a timely manner and balancing administrative tasks with in-field activities.
In-Field Sales: Getting your hands and boots dirty. Halter is best discussed over coffee at a kitchen table, in the saddle, or on a side-by-side in a pasture. Helping potential customers before diving into the value of Halter — dropping off coffee during calving season, valuing the magic moments that make all the difference.
Expanding Existing Opportunities: Always looking for new opportunities, including expanding existing customer relationships with Halter. Finding new ways to increase value over time through upsell opportunities.
Hitting Sales Targets: High-growth sales targets don't scare you. You're an expert pipeline manager, able to manage today's deals while keeping next month in your sights.
Customer Account Management: Maintaining close relationships with customers after the sale to ensure ongoing satisfaction, provide support, and address any challenges they face. Ensuring a smooth handoff from sales to customer onboarding and deployment.
Territory Ownership: Owning an entire territory and leaving no stone unturned. Building lasting relationships with regional agricultural groups, local, state, and federal agency stakeholders.
Customer Onboarding: Actively owning the end-to-end customer experience during onboarding and deployment of Halter's product, ensuring a smooth transition from sales to implementation.
Field Learnings & Feedback: Serving as the primary point of contact for gathering customer feedback in your territory and advocating for what your customers need.
Collaborating with Support Teams: Seeking out partners across Halter to resolve customer issues quickly, escalating problems as needed.
Attending Industry Events: Leveraging industry and Halter events to generate leads, deepen relationships, participate in demonstrations, and expand Halter's market influence.
Contributing to the US Sales Strategy: Working with the broader team to optimize and evolve the sales process, ensuring it fits the US market as we scale.
You'll Be Great If You Exhibit
Driven Attitude & Communication Skills: Results-driven, motivated, and adaptable — excelling in high-stakes environments, well-prepared, and skilled at communicating with customers and internal teams alike.
Ranching / Cattle Experience: You know the ropes (and the reins) of ranching or cattle operations, understanding the unique challenges of the industry.
Sales & Customer Success Expertise: A strong history of creating new business opportunities, negotiating value-based sales conversations, and building lasting customer relationships with upsell potential.
Territory Management Experience: Experience managing a large territory with a balanced focus on sales and customer success, ideally within agriculture or technology.
Problem Solving & Collaboration Ability: Resourceful and quick-thinking, working well with cross-functional teams to address challenges and drive solutions.
Willingness to Travel: Frequent travel within your territory to engage with customers and prospects.

Familiarity with precision agriculture or virtual fencing technologies.
