SDR Role at AI Fintech Startup - Grow Into AE Fast in Columbus
Career & Market Insight
This SDR role at Verlo sits at an exciting intersection: early-stage AI startup meeting the rapidly growing wealthtech vertical. Reporting directly to the founder is a strong signal — your feedback loop will be short and your impact on the sales motion will be real and visible.
Compensation signals: No salary is listed, which is common at early-stage startups. Market rates for B2B SaaS SDRs with 1–3 years of experience typically range from $50,000–$75,000 USD base with OTE (on-target earnings) of $70,000–$95,000 depending on commission structure. Equity is offered, which could be meaningful given the company's early stage and growth trajectory.
Skills you'll develop:
- Outbound sales craft in a high-growth AI SaaS environment
- Deep knowledge of the wealthtech/fintech ecosystem — a niche with strong demand
- AI-native tool usage in sales workflows (relevant across industries)
- Direct exposure to founder-led sales strategy — invaluable for future AE or sales leadership roles
Green flags: "Interest growing faster than we can follow up" suggests genuine inbound demand and product-market traction. Early SDR hires at successful startups often fast-track to AE roles within 12–18 months.
Red flags to watch for: No stated OTE or commission structure in the posting — ask specifically about quota expectations and comp breakdown. Early-stage startup intensity can mean long hours, so clarify expectations around workload.
Overall, this is a high-upside, high-effort opportunity best suited for ambitious SDRs who want to accelerate into a full-cycle sales role.
We're building the AI Agent OS for Advisors. Financial advisors use Verlo to replace the patchwork of tools they hate. Our agents join their meetings, write their notes, update their CRM, and answer any question about any client instantly. Interest is growing faster than we can follow up on, and we need someone at the top of the funnel turning that interest into booked meetings.
As a Sales Development Representative at Verlo, you'll be the first conversation most advisors have with us. You'll run outbound, qualify inbound, and book demos for our Account Executives. You'll work closely with the AE team and report directly to the founder.
What You'll Do
- Prospect every day: building lists, researching advisors and firms, and writing outbound that earns replies.
- Run the first call to qualify fit and book qualified demos for the AE team.
- Own inbound leads from our waitlist and referrals, respond fast, and make sure no good lead goes cold.
- Keep your pipeline clean, test new messaging and sequences, and feed back what's landing so we keep sharpening the pitch.
- Drive a steady flow of qualified meetings the AEs can close.
What We're Looking For
- 1–3+ years in an SDR, BDR, or outbound role at a B2B SaaS company with a consistent record of hitting meeting or pipeline targets.
- Comfortable with outbound — you can write cold email that gets a reply and pick up the phone without overthinking it.
- Discipline working remotely — you manage your own list, sequences, and follow-ups without anyone checking in on you.
- Strong written and verbal communication; you'll be drafting outreach, qualifying on calls, and recording Looms daily.
- Curiosity about the product and the market — you'll learn the workflows that matter to financial advisors and speak about them credibly.
- Resilient and coachable — you treat a no as information and iterate fast.
Nice to Have
- Experience prospecting into financial advisors, RIAs, or wealth management firms.
- Familiarity with the wealthtech ecosystem (custodians, planning software, CRMs like Redtail or Wealthbox).
- Experience with outbound tooling for sequencing, list-building, and enrichment.
- Background at an early-stage startup where you helped build the motion, not just follow it.
- You've used AI tools in your own workflow and understand why this market is about to change.
Benefits
- Health and dental benefits
- Unlimited vacation
- Equity in the company
