Senior AI PM Role – Code Generation & Dev Tools in Columbus
Career & Market Insight
Career Positioning: This is a senior-level, high-ownership PM role at a niche but technically ambitious applied AI startup. Leading the Code Generation product at the intersection of LLMs and enterprise dev tools places you at one of the hottest intersections in 2024–2025 tech. The skills developed here — AI product strategy, foundation model evaluation, legacy modernization, and enterprise sales partnership — are in extremely high demand and highly transferable to larger AI companies.
Compensation Context: No salary range is posted, which is a mild red flag for transparency. Senior technical PMs at AI startups in the UK typically earn £90K–£130K; US-equivalent roles command $150K–$200K+ including equity. Candidates should push for salary clarity and equity terms early in the process.
Green Flags:
- High autonomy and direct leadership exposure — you'll regularly interact with all levels of leadership and external executives
- Applied AI focus means real, measurable product impact rather than speculative research
- Remote-first culture signals trust and results-orientation over face-time management
- Niche positioning in legacy modernization is underserved and growing as enterprises face increasing tech debt pressure
Yellow Flags:
- No published compensation is a transparency concern
- Up to 20% travel may erode the remote-work benefit for some candidates
- Startup-stage ambiguity requires strong self-direction — less suited to those who prefer structured environments
Overall, this role is a strong career accelerator for a technical PM looking to build credibility in AI product leadership.

Mechanical Orchard is reinventing how the world's most critical software gets modernized. We're an applied AI company focused on one of the hardest problems in enterprise technology: rewriting complex legacy systems in a way that is provably correct, low risk, and fast enough to matter. By focusing on system behavior rather than code alone, we turn modernization from a high-stakes, failure-prone effort into a repeatable, confidence-building process that unlocks ongoing innovation.
Joining Mechanical Orchard means working on problems that truly matter—to our customers, their businesses, and the people who rely on these systems every day. We're building technology and methodology that challenge long-standing industry assumptions, prioritizing proof over promises and progress over theatrics. If you care deeply about quality, rigor, and doing the right thing—even when it's hard—you'll find your people here.
About the Role
We're seeking a Product Manager to lead our Code Generation team — a critical pillar of our modernization platform. In this role, you will own the strategy and roadmap for how AI-powered code generation accelerates large-scale legacy modernization. You will work closely with forward-deployed engineering teams and customers to deeply understand real-world modernization challenges and translate them into product capabilities that deliver measurable impact.
You'll also stay at the forefront of foundation model advancements, evaluating new capabilities across model providers and the broader coding tools ecosystem to ensure our platform consistently delivers best-in-class developer experiences. This role sits at the intersection of AI model innovation, enterprise reliability, and developer productivity, and will play a key role in shaping how AI transforms legacy workloads into modern systems.
Product Managers at Mechanical Orchard are dedicated to one team and work closely with a team of software engineers, as well as cross-functionally with Sales, Marketing, and our forward-deployed engineering teams. They are excited about using the latest AI tools to help us work faster and smarter, while constantly adapting to an evolving landscape of tools and best practices in the dev tools space. They balance long-term strategy with tactical delivery and apply modern product thinking to problems that have resisted innovation for decades.
What You'll Do
- Own the vision and roadmap for AI-driven code generation, defining how our platform accelerates large-scale legacy modernization
- Collaborate closely with our forward-deployed engineering teams as well as technical partners to turn real-world modernization challenges into scalable product capabilities
- Translate rapidly evolving foundation model capabilities into reliable, enterprise-grade developer experiences
- Ensure cross-team alignment of roadmap and technical strategy within the product organization and across Mechanical Orchard
- Measure impact, track adoption, code quality, and modernization velocity to guide product decisions
- Define quality, reliability, and evaluation standards for AI-generated code
- Represent your product internally and externally with executive stakeholders, technical partners, and customers
- Articulate customer value and benefits of your team's offering and help position it within an evolving market landscape
You're a Good Fit If You Have
- A Bachelor's or Master's degree in a technical field or equivalent experience
- Combined 5+ years in product management and engineering in a highly technical environment
- A deep technical background, ability to grasp technical concepts and establish credibility with engineers
- Track record of launching ambitious, highly technical products that have seen commercial success, preferably in dev tools
- Hands-on experience with latest AI coding tools, model capabilities, and industry trends
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills and comfort with presenting to various audiences across seniority levels
- The ability to navigate ambiguity and deliver high-quality product experiences on tight timelines and in line with our business aspirations
- A bias for action — you're not afraid to jump from writing a spec or story to talking to a customer or figuring out a new way to use AI tools to your advantage
People in this role will have a high degree of autonomy and responsibility, with frequent team-to-team communication and interaction with all levels of leadership.
