Career & Market Insight

This Building Maintenance Technician role at Dart — one of the Cayman Islands' largest and most established property development groups — offers a strong compensation package and a stable career platform in a niche, high-demand market.

Compensation perspective: CI$50,000–CI$70,000 (approx. USD $60,000–$84,000) with zero income tax is highly competitive globally for a trades technician, and significantly above what equivalent roles pay in the US, UK, or Canada when tax burden is factored in.

Skills developed in this role:

  • Advanced HVAC maintenance — chilled water and DX systems (high-demand specialty)
  • MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) systems management in Class A commercial properties
  • Solar system maintenance — a growing and transferable skill globally
  • Disaster preparedness and recovery coordination
  • Contractor management and technical documentation

Green flags: 100% employer-paid medical premiums, pension match, life insurance, and CPD opportunities signal a mature, employee-centric organization. The six-month probationary period before full benefits is standard but worth noting.

Career trajectory: Experience in Class A commercial properties in an offshore financial hub can be a strong differentiator on a CV, opening doors to facilities management or engineering supervisor roles regionally or internationally.

Consideration: The role requires physically demanding conditions and on-call availability. Candidates should evaluate long-term physical sustainability and ensure the employer's career ladder extends beyond the technician level.
