Managing Director Indirect Tax Tech - Career Growth Role in Columbus
Career & Market Insight
This is a senior leadership role (Managing Director level) at Forvis Mazars, one of the top 10 largest US public accounting firms with 7,000+ staff. It sits at the intersection of two high-demand domains: indirect tax compliance and tax technology transformation — a pairing that commands a significant compensation premium in today's market.
Compensation context: Managing Director roles in tax technology at top-10 accounting firms typically range from $250,000–$400,000+ total compensation (base + bonus), varying by market and book of business. No salary is listed here, so candidates should negotiate anchored to this range.
Skills you'll build and leverage:
- Deep expertise in leading tax engines (AvaTax, Vertex, ONESOURCE) — skills in extremely high demand as companies automate indirect tax compliance
- ERP integration experience (SAP, Workday, NetSuite) — cross-functional and highly transferable
- Practice leadership: team building, business development, go-to-market strategy
- Thought leadership through article authorship and speaking engagements
Green flags: The firm emphasizes mentorship culture, continuous learning, and cross-functional collaboration with Consulting and Audit practices. The tax technology transformation market is growing rapidly, giving this role long-term runway.
Considerations: The role carries significant business development expectations — you're expected to help grow revenue, not just deliver. Candidates without a network or book of business should factor that in. The CMI certification preference signals a high bar for technical credibility.
