Director Performance Creative – Agency Career Growth in Columbus
Career & Market Insight
Compensation vs. Market: The $120,000–$130,000 base salary sits at the lower-to-mid range for a Director-level role at a mid-to-large digital agency. Comparable Director of Creative Strategy roles at top independent agencies or in-house at tech companies typically range $140,000–$170,000. The performance bonus and strong benefits package (unlimited PTO, full parental leave, ClassPass) partially offset this gap, but candidates with strong leverage should negotiate.
Skills This Role Builds: This position is a strong accelerator for high-demand capabilities:
- Cross-channel performance creative leadership (Meta, TikTok, YouTube, Amazon, Programmatic)
- AI integration into creative workflows — a rapidly growing area of demand
- Executive client advisory and new business development (RFP leadership)
- P&L-adjacent thinking: staffing, scoping, resource planning
Culture Signals: Wpromote is a well-established independent agency with recognized industry accolades (Ad Age Best Place to Work, Adweek Fastest Growing). The role sits at the intersection of creative and performance marketing — a genuinely differentiated skill set that is highly portable to VP roles at agencies, in-house creative leadership, or consulting.
Green Flags: Builder's mindset encouraged, AI adoption championed, clear cross-functional scope, and leadership of a small but senior team (2–5 direct reports including Associate Directors).
Watch For: The salary ceiling is relatively tight for a Director role. Confirm bonus potential and growth path to VP in your interviews.
