Career & Market Insight

This is a senior Director-level role at a high-growth, pre-IPO tech company — a rare opportunity to own financial and corporate communications during a pivotal stage. Motive's language around "major funding, scale, or pre-IPO phases" signals the company may be preparing for a liquidity event, making the narrative you build here potentially career-defining.

Compensation: The $207K–$285K range (plus potential RSUs) is above market for a Director of Communications in most US markets. Comparable roles at public tech companies typically land between $175K–$250K, making this offering competitive even for top-tier candidates.

Skills you'll build:

  • Pre-IPO and M&A communications — highly transferable and in-demand
  • Executive communications for C-suite (CEO/CFO visibility programs)
  • Crisis & reputation management at scale
  • AI-enabled PR tooling — a growing differentiator in the field

Culture signals: The role spans corporate, financial, internal, and crisis communications — a very broad scope for one person, suggesting a lean team and high ownership expectations. The mention of managing PR agencies and coordinating across Legal/Finance/IR implies strong process maturity, but the fast-paced framing hints at a startup culture despite near-enterprise scale (100K customers).

Green flags: RSUs, strong salary band, pre-IPO upside, cross-functional exposure. Watch for: The non-compete clause (varies by state) and the very broad remit — ensure sufficient team support is in place before accepting.
