Learning Consultant Role - EdTech Sales Career Growth in Columbus
Career & Market Insight
This role sits at the intersection of edtech sales, client success, and education consulting — a growing niche as online K–12 supplemental education expands globally. Think Academy is backed by TAL Education Group (NYSE: TAL), one of China's largest ed-tech conglomerates, giving it institutional stability despite being a newer U.S. entity.
Compensation check: At $25/hr (roughly $48,000–$52,000 annualized for 40 hrs/week) plus performance bonus and commission, this is below the U.S. median for full educational sales consultant roles ($55,000–$70,000), but the commission structure can meaningfully supplement base pay. The role is currently contract-style (hourly) with a stated conversion path to exempt salaried — which is both a risk and an opportunity.
Skills you'll develop:
- Consultative sales in a regulated, relationship-driven industry
- Cross-cultural client communication (bilingual English/Mandarin is a rare and marketable skill)
- CRM and enrollment pipeline management
- EdTech product knowledge, increasingly valued in a growing sector
Green flags: Paid training from day one, clear performance-to-conversion pathway, 401k match, and full insurance benefits for an hourly role are above average.
Potential red flags: Weekend and evening availability requirements signal a demanding schedule. The hourly (non-exempt) structure suggests the role isn't yet fully committed to long-term hires. Bilingual Mandarin fluency is a hard requirement, significantly narrowing the candidate pool — which is a strong signal for those who qualify.
This role is best suited for early-career professionals looking to break into edtech, or bilingual candidates wanting to leverage language skills in a client-facing growth role.
