Career & Market Insight

This Werkstudent (Working Student) role at Planet Labs is an entry-level opportunity best suited for students looking to break into the satellite data, geospatial, or customer success fields. Planet is a well-regarded space-tech company with a genuine humanitarian mission — strong brand recognition in the GIS and earth observation space.

Career development value:

  • Exposure to enterprise customer success workflows, contractual governance, and reporting — transferable to SaaS, tech, and data industries.
  • Opportunity to learn about the remote sensing and GIS industry, which is a growing and specialized field with limited entry points for students.
  • Working alongside experienced Customer Success Managers provides mentorship and insight into enterprise client management.

Compensation: No salary is stated. Market rates for Werkstudent roles in Berlin in tech typically range from €12–16/hour — in line with legal minimums and common in the industry. This is not financially competitive for experienced candidates, but is appropriate for the student level.

Green flags: Planet has a strong inclusion culture, LinkedIn Learning access, and a wellness program. The company's global reach and mission-driven identity are positives for motivated candidates.

Considerations: This is a junior, structured support role — not a strategic or growth-heavy position. Those seeking rapid skill development should complement this with coursework in GIS, data analysis, or Python to maximize career outcomes in the geospatial sector.
