Career & Market Insight

Career trajectory: This Systems Analyst role at MANTECH sits at the intersection of government IT and defense contracting — a sector known for stability, steady growth, and strong demand. The 3+ year requirement targeting Navy/USMC experience signals this is a mid-level position, and the $59K–$98K band reflects that range well. Mid-market benchmarks for Systems Analysts in the DoD space typically fall between $65K–$90K, so the ceiling here is competitive.

Skills developed:

  • DoD/USMC-specific systems administration — a niche that commands a clearance premium
  • Windows server management, TCP/IP, and network security fundamentals
  • CompTIA Security+ (required within 3 months) — a widely recognized, foundational cybersecurity certification
  • Familiarity with military logistics systems (DECKPLATE, NAVAIR LOGIT, OOMA) — rare skills that increase your value to defense contractors

Green flags: MANTECH is a well-established, publicly traded defense contractor with a 55+ year history — low bankruptcy risk compared to smaller GovCon firms. Learning & Development benefits suggest investment in employee growth.

Watch-outs: Contract-based roles can be subject to re-compete cycles; if the underlying government contract changes, the position may be at risk. The Security+ requirement within 90 days adds early pressure. Career ceiling may be limited without a degree, though clearance holders often have strong mobility across defense contractors.
