Career & Market Insight

Compensation vs. Market: The SF range of $196K–$294K is well above average for a senior fullstack engineer (market median ~$160K–$220K in SF). Even adjusted downward for non-SF locations, this is a competitive package. Add equity in a high-profile, VC-backed infrastructure company, and total comp is compelling.

Skills You'll Build: This role sits at a rare intersection of engineering depth and growth marketing, developing high-demand skills in:

  • Next.js and modern React at production scale
  • Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO) and A/B testing — increasingly valued in product-led growth companies
  • Performance engineering and Core Web Vitals optimization
  • Design systems and cross-functional collaboration with marketing/design orgs

Career Trajectory: Working at Vercel — the company behind Next.js — is a significant résumé signal in the frontend/fullstack world. This role positions you for senior/staff IC tracks or growth engineering leadership roles at other high-growth SaaS companies.

Culture Signals: Vercel is a growth-stage scaleup (not an early startup, not a large enterprise). The fast-paced language, A/B testing emphasis, and cross-functional scope suggest a results-driven culture with high autonomy.

Green Flags: Equity + competitive cash, mentorship investment, flexible PTO, and a product with genuine developer mindshare. Watch for: "fast-paced environment" can mean high throughput expectations; the Monday/Tuesday/Friday office anchor policy may be restrictive if you relocate to a hub city.

About Vercel:

Vercel is the agentic infrastructure company. We free people and agents to ship what's next.

Now, software is entering a new era, and the next generation of products will not just be used by people. They will be built, extended, and operated by agents.

We are building the platform for that future, trusted by companies like OpenAI, PayPal, Ramp, Supreme, and millions of developers worldwide. Whether you're building our products, supporting our customers, growing our community, or shaping our story, you'll help define what comes next.

About the Role:

  • Continuously improve engineering processes, tools, and systems to scale the codebase and team productivity.
  • Troubleshoot and fix bugs, delivering quick, high-quality resolutions.
  • Write technical documents and maintain internal tools to empower other teams.
  • Review and provide feedback on contributions from other engineers.
  • Identify bottlenecks and optimize for conversion, speed, and reliability across the funnel.
  • Critically think about foundational areas of the Vercel application to ensure ease of maintenance and future extensibility.

About You:

  • 5+ years of professional frontend engineering experience (React, JavaScript, Tailwind CSS, or similar).
  • Strong proficiency in Next.js and familiarity with modern frontend frameworks.
  • Full stack experience (comfortable designing or consuming APIs and working with various services).
  • Deep understanding of SEO principles and best practices—especially around performance, accessibility, and search optimization.
  • Proven knowledge of A/B testing concepts and conversion rate optimization.
  • Stellar cross-functional communication skills—you can work effectively with marketing, design, and product to reach shared goals.
  • Eye for good user experiences and a knack for "getting the visuals right."
  • Desire to work in a fast-paced environment, continuously grow, and master your craft.
