Senior Deal Desk Manager – SaaS Leadership Path UK in Columbus
Career & Market Insight
Career Trajectory: This role is explicitly positioned as a stepping stone to people management — the posting states a "view to progress into a people manager role." For senior individual contributors looking to move into leadership without a full title change upfront, this player/coach structure is a genuine development opportunity rather than vague promise.
Compensation Context: No salary is listed, but Senior Deal Desk Manager roles in the UK SaaS market typically range from £70,000–£95,000 base, with top-tier companies like Amplitude (a publicly traded, well-capitalised analytics platform) tending toward the upper band. Amplitude has faced some restructuring post-2022, so it's worth researching current headcount trends.
Skills You'll Build:
- Enterprise SaaS pricing and contract strategy — highly portable across B2B tech
- Salesforce CPQ mastery — a specialised, in-demand skill commanding premium salaries
- Cross-functional influence without direct authority — critical for VP-level roles
- AI and automation adoption in Revenue Operations — a fast-growing discipline
Green Flags: Autonomy with guardrails, policy-shaping authority, and cross-functional scope signal a mature RevOps function. The emphasis on "setting precedent" suggests real strategic influence.
Red Flags to Probe: The absence of a stated team size and the ambiguity around the management timeline ("view to progress") deserve direct questions in interviews. Confirm what "international" means in practice — EMEA only, or global?
Amplitude is building the operating system for digital product innovation—and our Deal Desk team sits right at the centre of how we monetise that vision. This team partners deeply with Sales, Finance, Legal, and Revenue Accounting to structure smart, scalable deals that accelerate growth without introducing risk.
As a Senior Deal Desk Manager, you'll act as player/coach with a view to progress into a people manager role to lead our International Deal Desk team. You will act as the senior strategic advisor on our most complex international deals and operate with real autonomy — given clear guardrails, but trusted to make the call. You'll help shape deal strategy, guide pricing and contract decisions, and bring clarity to ambiguity—all while keeping the business moving fast.
As a Senior Deal Desk Manager, you will:
- Support Amplitude's International Deal Desk team — supporting with hiring, coaching, and setting the bar for how the team partners with Sales, Finance, and Legal
- Own deal strategy for complex, high-risk international deals, advising Sales leadership on pricing, packaging, contract terms, and negotiation strategy — including setting precedent where policy doesn't yet exist
- Review and approve complex non-standard transactions end-to-end, ensuring approvals align with revenue recognition, legal, and operational policy
- Act as the connective tissue across Sales, Legal, Finance, RevOps, and Accounting, resolving disagreements and driving alignment across time zones
- Scale the Quote to Order process — codifying best practices and driving adoption of AI tools and automation across the team
You'll be a great addition to the team if:
- You're genuinely comfortable operating in ambiguity as the senior decision-maker on the ground.
- You thrive in a fast-paced environment with high-stakes deals that require creative thinking and sound judgment.
- You build trust with Sales by being a valued partner—creative, collaborative, and solution-oriented—while still holding the line when it matters.
- You're energised by cross-functional collaboration and know how to drive alignment across strong personalities and competing priorities.
- You have sharp judgment on risk and detail, balanced with knowing when a rule should flex and when it shouldn't.
- You're a clear, thoughtful communicator with strong critical thinking skills and a constant drive to improve systems, processes, and how teams work together.
At a minimum, you need to have:
- Significant experience in Deal Desk, Sales Operations, or a similar deal strategy role in a SaaS or subscription-based business, including complex, enterprise-scale transactions
- A track record of operating autonomously and making independent decisions, ideally in an international, remote, or distributed-team setting removed from the core of a leadership team
- Experience designing or evolving deal desk policy, pricing frameworks, or approval processes — not just operating within them
- Experience partnering with Legal and Finance on non-standard terms and approvals
- Proficiency with Salesforce (CPQ experience strongly preferred) and comfort working with data and complex deal scenarios
- Familiarity with channel selling model and transacting through cloud marketplaces
