Career & Market Insight

Career trajectory: This is a strong mid-to-senior sales engineering role within a FTSE100 industrial group, targeting the fast-growing Life Sciences / Biotech sector. Upstream Bioprocessing is one of the highest-demand niches in pharma/biotech manufacturing — experience here is highly transferable to competitors like Sartorius, Repligen, Parker, or Cytiva.

Skills developed:

  • Consultative B2B technical sales in regulated industries
  • Key account management and enterprise pipeline building
  • Deep domain expertise in fluid handling and bioprocessing technology
  • Cross-functional EMEA stakeholder management and CRM discipline

Compensation context: No salary is disclosed, but Sales Engineers at FTSE100 industrials in EMEA with biotech specialisation typically command £65,000–£95,000 base, plus commission/bonus (often 20–30% OTE uplift). If you're currently below this band, this role represents a meaningful step up.

Green flags:

  • FTSE100 employer — strong financial stability and structured career paths
  • Inclusive culture with substantive benefits (caregiver leave, gender-neutral parental leave) signals a mature, employee-friendly HR function
  • Bioprocessing is a resilient, growing market — your pipeline of opportunities is structural, not cyclical

Watch out for: The 60–70% travel requirement is high and can lead to burnout over time. Clarify territory size and whether travel is domestic or international. Also confirm whether the role has a quota/OTE structure and what ramp time looks like for a new hire building territory from scratch.
