Career & Market Insight

This is a solid mid-to-senior individual contributor role at Lightspeed — a publicly traded (NYSE & TSX) scale-up with global reach. The position sits at the intersection of enterprise platform engineering and IT service management, making it attractive for developers looking to deepen specialized expertise.

Compensation: At $85,000–$105,000 CAD, this aligns with mid-market rates for Ontario-based ServiceNow developers. Senior ServiceNow developers in Canada typically command $100,000–$130,000+ CAD, so the ceiling here is slightly below top-of-market — though equity options and RRSP matching add real value.

Skills you'll build:

  • Deep ServiceNow platform expertise (ITSM, HRSD, Flow Designer, Integration Hub) — consistently high demand globally
  • Enterprise API integration patterns (REST, OAuth, iPaaS via Workato)
  • Exposure to GenAI tooling via Now Assist and MCP — an emerging, high-value skill set
  • Stakeholder management and solution architecture experience

Green flags: Lightspeed is a mature scale-up (founded 2005, dual-listed) with a strong DEI ethos and genuine learning investment. The role is delivery-focused with clear ownership, which suits developers who want to see real impact rather than endless backlog grooming.

Watch for: The description mentions "fast-paced environment" and acting as an escalation point — this role carries operational responsibility, not just project work. Burnout risk exists if the on-call or incident burden is heavy. Clarify support rotation expectations in interviews.

Overall, this is a strong career move for a mid-level ServiceNow developer looking to own a platform end-to-end at a recognized tech company.

Hi there! Thanks for stopping by

Are you actively looking for a new opportunity? Or just checking the market? Well… you might just be in the right place!

We are looking for a hands-on ServiceNow Developer to join our IT Platform team. This person will own the day-to-day configuration, development, and support of our ServiceNow instance, working across ITSM & HRSD while helping extend the platform through custom development and third-party integrations. This is a highly technical, delivery-focused role for someone who enjoys building, troubleshooting, and continuously improving a mission-critical enterprise platform.

You'll work across our development, staging, and production instances, partner closely with IT and business stakeholders, and help drive our upgrade and enhancement roadmap forward.

What you'll be doing:

  • Develop and configure ServiceNow: Build and maintain applications, catalog items, record producers, workflows, Business Rules, Client Scripts, UI Policies, Script Includes, UI Actions, and other platform components.

  • Build integrations: Design, develop, and troubleshoot integrations between ServiceNow and third-party systems using REST/SOAP APIs, OAuth, webhooks, Integration Hub, MCP, and iPaaS platforms such as Workato.

  • Maintain and optimize the platform: Monitor platform health, troubleshoot performance issues, optimize scripts and flows, and ensure solutions remain scalable and maintainable.

  • Support ServiceNow applications like ITSM & HRSD: Help deliver and improve Incident, Problem, Change, Request, and HR-related workflows and automations.

  • Manage access and security: Administer roles, ACLs, permissions, and other platform access controls in line with security and audit requirements.

  • Resolve complex issues: Act as an escalation point for platform-level incidents, perform root cause analysis, and coordinate with infrastructure, security, vendors, and other technical teams when issues span multiple systems.

  • Deliver enhancements and projects: Partner with stakeholders to gather requirements, prioritize the backlog, design solutions, and take work through development, testing, deployment, and post-launch support.

  • Drive platform consistency: Establish reusable development patterns and standards for workflows, notifications, approvals, documentation, and user experiences.

  • Support upgrades and releases: Evaluate new ServiceNow releases, test upgrades, remediate breaking changes, and adopt relevant new platform capabilities.

  • Document and enable: Maintain technical documentation, runbooks, integration documentation, and user procedures, and provide support or training when needed.

What you need to bring:

  • Hands-on experience developing and administering ServiceNow, ideally across ITSM and/or HRSD.

  • Strong JavaScript skills, including ServiceNow scripting APIs such as GlideRecord and GlideAjax.

  • Experience with Flow Designer, Business Rules, Script Includes, Client Scripts, UI Policies, UI Actions, ACLs, and Service Catalog development.

  • Experience designing and troubleshooting REST/SOAP integrations, OAuth, webhooks, and enterprise integrations.

  • Strong understanding of ITSM processes and how they translate into ServiceNow solutions.

  • Ability to independently troubleshoot complex issues across ServiceNow and connected systems.

  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills.

  • Experience working with stakeholders to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.

  • Comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Nice to have's

  • Experience with HRSD, ITOM, Workday, or identity/HR platforms.

  • Experience with ServiceNow AI/GenAI capabilities, including Now Assist.

  • Experience with MCP (Model Context Protocol) and MCP-enabled tools or workflows.

  • Experience with Workato or other iPaaS platforms.

  • ServiceNow CSA or CAD, or ITIL 4 Foundation certification.
