Career & Market Insight

This role at Delta Hotels by Marriott (Edinburgh) is a solid entry point into hospitality facilities management, particularly for those looking to build a long-term maintenance career within a globally recognised hotel brand.

Work-life balance signals are generally positive: weekend requirements are limited to one per month, and the role appears structured with defined responsibilities rather than chaotic on-call demands (though a call-out surcharge suggests some on-call expectation).

Compensation is described as "competitive" but not specified. UK hospitality maintenance roles at this level typically range from £22,000 to £27,000 annually in Scotland — slightly below the UK national average for skilled trades, but the benefits package (meals, pension, EAP, hotel discounts) adds meaningful non-cash value.

Skills developed in this role:

  • Preventive maintenance planning (PPM systems)
  • Cross-departmental collaboration in a service environment
  • Health & safety compliance in a regulated hospitality setting
  • Guest-facing communication and service recovery

Green flags: Marriott's global network means genuine internal transfer opportunities across properties worldwide. Career development and training investment are explicitly stated — uncommon for entry-level maintenance roles.

Red flags: No salary disclosed, and electrical/plumbing qualifications are "a bonus" rather than required, suggesting this may be positioned at the lower end of the maintenance pay scale. Candidates with trade qualifications should negotiate accordingly.

At Delta Hotels by Marriott, we like to keep things simple and get them done right. We're a busy, friendly team, and we're looking for a handy, reliable Maintenance Team Member to help us keep the hotel looking sharp and running smoothly.

We are looking for a highly motivated person with a real "can do" attitude. If you're someone who loves solving problems, stays positive when things get busy, and takes pride in a job well done, we want to hear from you!

What You'll Be Doing
  • Assist with planned preventive maintenance (PPM): General repairs like painting, changing silicone, or basic plumbing and electrical jobs.
  • Keeping rooms in perfect condition: Doing regular walk-throughs to catch little issues (like a loose door handle or a burnt out lightbulb) before a guest does.
  • Helping our guests: Heading up to guest rooms to fix any quick issues with a smile and a "no problem" attitude.
  • Working as a team: Supporting the Maintenance Manager and helping other departments.
  • Staying safe: Following the usual health and safety rules to keep yourself, the team, and our guests safe.
  • Sorting the workshop: Keeping your tools tidy and letting us know when we're running low on supplies.
What We Expect
  • A flexible approach to working hours (including one weekend a month)
  • Previous experience in a maintenance or handyman role is preferred
  • An electrical or plumbing qualification is a bonus but not required
  • Attention to detail and practical problem solving
What's In It For You

In addition to receiving a competitive salary and investment in your personal development, you will have access to an array of perks and discounts including:

  • Free Meals on Duty: Enjoy complimentary meals while at work.
  • Call Out Surcharge: A supplementary payment while on call for the hotel.
  • Uniform Provided: A professional uniform is supplied for all employees.
  • Explore Discounts: A Marriott Discount Card that offers benefits on hotel stays and F&B across 140 countries.
  • Pension Scheme: Participation in The People's Pension.
  • Employee Assistance Programme: Free and confidential support for various challenges, including financial advice, stress, and health issues.
