Career & Market Insight

Compensation vs. Market: The $165,000–$180,000 range is competitive and sits at the high end for Senior Product Manager roles in the US market, where typical ranges run $140K–$175K. For a payments-specialized PM with fintech depth, this is fair-to-strong — especially for a fully remote role.

Skills Development: This role is a high-value resume builder. You will develop:

  • Deep expertise in payments infrastructure (Adyen, Fiserv, Global Payments integrations) — one of the most in-demand fintech specializations
  • Executive-level stakeholder management and strategy presentation skills
  • End-to-end product ownership of a platform processing $257B annually — significant scale credibility
  • Cross-functional leadership without direct authority — a key skill for Principal PM and Director-level progression

Career Trajectory: This is a natural stepping stone toward Director of Product, VP of Product, or Chief Product Officer roles at fintech or SaaS companies. Payments expertise is highly portable and commands premium compensation across Stripe, Adyen, PayFac startups, and enterprise fintech.

Company Stage Signals: Versapay has 10,000+ customers and processes $257B annually — this is a growth-stage scale-up, not an early startup. Expect process maturity but also room to shape strategy. The mention of "modernizing a global payments platform" suggests some technical debt and transformation work ahead.

Green Flags: Clear scope, strong domain ownership, leadership mentoring opportunity. Watch for: The role spans many responsibilities (strategy, execution, GTM, compliance, mentoring) — clarify team size and support structure in interviews to avoid scope overload.

Headquarters: United States (Remote)

How you'll make an impact here – and on your career:

Product management at Versapay is a craft that blends strategic thinking, customer empathy, and strong execution. As Senior Product Manager, Payments, you will own the end-to-end payments product and experience, from customer-facing workflows through underlying processing, settlement, and partner integrations.

In this role, you will be accountable for the vision, strategy, and delivery of our payments capabilities, with a particular focus on our payment processing gateway and broader payments ecosystem. You will operate with a holistic mindset — owning outcomes across reliability, usability, scalability, and commercial performance — rather than isolated features.

This role pairs deep payments domain ownership with modern product management practices. You will lead end-to-end product development, drive customer and business value through data-informed decisions, and collaborate across engineering, design, and go-to-market teams to deliver scalable, reliable, and innovative payments experiences. You will also regularly represent the payments product strategy and performance to senior leadership, influencing direction and investment decisions.

This is an opportunity for a product leader who thrives in complexity, is energized by ambiguity, and is excited to help grow and modernize a global payments platform.

What you'll do:

Product Strategy & Vision

  • Own and articulate a clear product vision and strategy for payments, aligned with company objectives and growth plans.
  • Take a holistic view of the end-to-end payments experience, ensuring customer, operational, and platform considerations are tightly integrated.
  • Define and evolve the payments roadmap, balancing customer needs, regulatory requirements, operational scalability, and commercial outcomes.
  • Stay current on industry trends, emerging payment methods, and competitive offerings to inform strategy and prioritization.
  • Identify opportunities for cross-product alignment, standardization, and platform unification across the broader product portfolio.

End-to-End Product Ownership

  • Lead payments products through the full product development lifecycle, from discovery and ideation through launch and continuous improvement.
  • Partner closely with engineering and design to translate customer problems into well-defined requirements, epics, and user stories.
  • Prioritize the product backlog based on customer impact, business value, and technical feasibility.
  • Drive high-quality execution across multiple workstreams while maintaining a strong bias toward action.

Payments Domain Leadership

  • Serve as the subject-matter expert for payments, including payment gateways, processors, payment facilitators, settlement, and funding flows.
  • Own integrations and relationships with major processors and partners (e.g., Adyen, Fiserv, Global Payments).
  • Ensure products are built with a strong understanding of payments operations, risk, compliance, and scalability.
  • Help shape the future of our payments infrastructure to support global growth.

Customer & Market Insight

  • Be the expert on the customer: deeply understand who is using our payments products, what problems they are trying to solve, and how success is measured.
  • Conduct market research, customer interviews, and data analysis to identify opportunities and validate solutions.
  • Design hypotheses and experiments to test assumptions and drive learning.

Data-Driven Decision Making

  • Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure product success across adoption, revenue, reliability, and customer outcomes.
  • Use product analytics, customer feedback, and operational data to inform prioritization and identify areas for improvement.
  • Present product strategy, progress, and performance to senior leadership and executive stakeholders.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Influence

  • Lead and influence cross-functional teams across engineering, design, sales, marketing, professional services, and customer success.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for payments products, aligning internal teams and external partners around shared goals.
  • Facilitate agile ceremonies and ensure teams are focused on delivering the highest-impact outcomes.

Go-To-Market & Adoption

  • Partner with go-to-market teams to define value propositions, pricing inputs, and launch strategies for payments capabilities.
  • Create internal and customer-facing documentation, training materials, and presentations to support successful launches.
  • Drive adoption and ongoing success of payments products post-launch.

Leadership & Craft Excellence

  • Foster a high-performance, collaborative culture focused on customer value and continuous improvement.
  • Mentor and influence other product managers, helping elevate the craft of product management across the organization.
  • Operate effectively in a complex environment, making timely decisions while managing tradeoffs.

What you'll bring to the team:

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in product management, including ownership of complex, user-facing digital products.
  • Proven experience building, launching, and scaling payments or fintech products.
  • Strong understanding of payments ecosystems, including gateways, processors, payment facilitators, and settlement flows.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate product strategy and results to senior leadership, including experience presenting to executive audiences.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams in an agile development environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate business strategy into clear product direction and execution.
  • Strong analytical mindset with experience using data to inform decisions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distill complexity for technical and non-technical audiences.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience.
  • MBA or advanced degree is a plus.

Tools & Ways of Working

  • Experience with product and delivery tools such as Jira and product analytics platforms (e.g., Heap, Mixpanel, Amplitude).
  • Comfort working with APIs, data, and complex systems at scale.

What Will Make You Stand Out (Nice to Have)

  • Experience with ISO standards and payment facilitator operations.
  • Technical understanding of payment frameworks and data models.
  • Experience operating in highly regulated or global payments environments.
  • Builder mentality: entrepreneurial, adaptable, and comfortable defining net-new initiatives in ambiguous spaces.
