People Ops Associate at Monzo - HRIS & HR Career in Columbus
Career & Market Insight
Contract Type & Duration: This is a 12-month fixed-term contract (caregiver cover), which is important to note — it's not a permanent role. However, a 12-month stint at a high-growth fintech like Monzo carries strong CV value, particularly given the HRIS implementation project on the roadmap.
Compensation vs. Market: At £34,000–£40,000, this is slightly below the London market median for a People Operations Associate with HRIS experience (typically £38,000–£48,000 in London). For a fully remote role outside London, it's competitive. The performance-based Incentive Awards add upside.
Skills You'll Build:
- HRIS implementation — hands-on system migration experience is highly sought-after in HR tech
- Workflow automation & AI tooling in HR operations — a fast-growing discipline
- Multi-country People Ops across EU jurisdictions (Spain, France, Italy, Poland)
- Payroll administration and regulatory compliance in a regulated financial services environment
Culture Signals: Monzo is a scaled-up fintech (~2,000+ employees) with startup DNA — trust-based hours, flexible working, part-time options, and a D&I-forward culture are genuine green flags. The team operates with clear SLAs and audit rigour, suggesting a professional, process-oriented environment.
Red Flag to Watch: Fixed-term contracts can create uncertainty. Clarify during the interview whether conversion to permanent is possible based on performance or headcount needs.

Our People Operations Team ⭐
We are looking for a People Operations Associate to join us for 12 months to provide caregiver cover. This is a fantastic opportunity to step into a high-functioning team and keep our core operations running smoothly during a period of leave.
Over the next 12 months we will be working on an HRIS implementation, so we're looking for someone with hands-on experience with HRIS design or systems migrations. Our team creates excellent employee experiences by designing and running reliable core people processes. We enable employees and managers by providing timely, accurate and user-friendly information, and we own core People Systems — making us the guardians of data accuracy and compliance.
Each day will be different, and you'll learn a lot about the inner operations of how a People team works. The people lifecycle covers everything from onboarding to offboarding and everything in between. You'll support owners of the people lifecycle to make sure we provide the best service to our internal community.
You'll play a key role by...
Managing core people processes:
- Administering employee changes in our People systems
- Benefit sign-up and opt-out administration
- Issuing contractual change letters for our Monzonauts
- Managing the offboarding process for leavers
- Issuing employment references, including regulatory references
- Supporting the compilation and checking of monthly payroll, and helping with pay queries
- Managing caregiver leave and other leave processes
- Answering general people queries for our Monzonauts
- Acting as a source of knowledge for all people policies, procedures and ways of working
- Managing our mandatory training programme, and supporting Learning & Development with administration and logistics for other required training programmes
- Supporting Monzo's growth and expansion, responding to queries and managing robust processes across multiple EU countries
Auditing & Controls:
- Carrying out audit checks within core people processes to ensure tasks have been fulfilled accurately
- Regular data audits to ensure our data is accurate and complete
- Ad hoc audits of critical documentation, for example: right-to-work documents, employment contracts, options certificates
Process design, improvement & projects:
- Designing scalable People Operations workflows, supporting system migrations, and identifying opportunities to automate and optimise ways of working
- Producing and continuously improving documentation for all people processes
- Supporting our People Partners & Advisors, Reward squad, Hiring squad and others on People-wide projects
We'd love to hear from you if…
- You have great prioritisation skills — we deal with a high volume of queries and tasks each day with varying levels of importance and different SLAs to meet.
- You have great attention to detail — we're making systems changes and issuing contracts and reference letters which have to be right first time.
- You have strong communication skills — we're the first point of contact for all things People-related and provide a delightful experience.
- You have hands-on experience with HRIS implementations and workflow design, including supporting system migrations. You bring a strong understanding of People Operations requirements, can adapt processes to fit new systems, and proactively identify opportunities to improve and streamline ways of working.
- You have an automation-first mindset — you enjoy finding ways to use AI or workflow automation to eliminate repetitive tasks.
- Not required but a plus: experience supporting people operations processes across Spain, Italy, France or Poland.
