Career & Market Insight

This Manager-level role at Natera sits at an exciting intersection of clinical biostatistics, regulatory science, and bioinformatics — a niche with strong and growing market demand, especially as oncology diagnostics and liquid biopsy testing expand rapidly.

Compensation vs. Market: The $132K–$165K range is competitive for a Statistical Programming Manager in the US biotech/diagnostics space, though slightly below top-tier pharma (where comparable roles can reach $180K+). Natera's equity and benefits package could close this gap materially.

Skills You'll Build:

  • Advanced R programming — package development and R Shiny dashboards are highly transferable skills in demand across biotech, pharma, and data science.
  • Regulatory submission expertise (510(k), PMA, CDx) is a rare and premium skillset with limited talent supply.
  • Experience with NGS and oncology diagnostics positions you for roles at companies like Illumina, Foundation Medicine, or Guardant Health.

Culture & Growth Signals: Natera is a publicly traded, growth-stage biotech company. The posting's language — "you'll work hard and grow quickly" — signals a high-performance culture with real career acceleration potential, but also high expectations. The hands-on management structure (player-coach role) suggests a lean team environment.

Green Flags: Cross-functional exposure, regulatory leadership, and team management responsibility at Manager level make this a strong stepping stone to a Director or VP of Statistical Programming role.

This is an exciting opportunity to participate in advancing Natera's oncology product portfolio of cutting-edge diagnostic tests. As Manager of Statistical Programming, you will leverage your strong R programming skills and clinical trials background to contribute to the analysis and reporting of clinical trials supporting multiple regulatory submissions.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead and oversee statistical programming deliverables, including ADS (Analysis Datasets) and TLF (Tables, Listings and Figures), ensuring data integrity and regulatory compliance with ICH, GCP, and FDA 21 CFR Part 11.
  • May manage a team of statistical programmers, taking responsibility for their technical and professional development, while contributing hands-on to programming work.
  • Act as primary programming lead for regulatory submissions (e.g., 510(k), CTA/CDx, and PMA), ensuring all deliverables meet rigorous global standards.
  • Maintain programming infrastructure, including R package development, validation, and maintenance in a controlled environment.
  • Develop R Shiny dashboards that support data review, study monitoring, and exploration of analysis results.
  • Promote statistical programming development and validation best practices.
  • Work cross-functionally with Biostats, Data Management, Clinical Science, and other functions as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of related experience, with at least 3 years of experience in Clinical Trial analysis.
  • At least 3 years of R programming experience, including package development.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficient in R programming, including building and maintaining packages.
  • Experience in analysis dataset and TLF generation.
  • Prior experience in NGS, genetics, and/or oncology diagnostics preferred.
  • Experience maintaining statistical computing environments a plus.

The pay range is listed and actual compensation packages are based on a wide array of factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, years & depth of experience, certifications and specific office location. This may differ in other locations due to cost of labor considerations.
