Lead GenAI PM at Envato – AI Product Career Growth in Columbus
Career & Market Insight
Career Positioning: This is a rare senior IC (individual contributor) role at the convergence of GenAI product strategy and the creative economy — a niche with extremely high demand and limited supply of experienced practitioners. Landing this role positions you as a named expert in AI product leadership, a profile that commands premium market value.
Compensation Context: No salary is disclosed. Market benchmarks for a Lead/Senior PM in GenAI in Australia typically range from AUD 180,000–240,000 total compensation. Envato, now part of Shutterstock (post-2024 acquisition), may offer corporate-scale comp structures. Worth negotiating hard given the strategic importance of this role.
Skills You'll Build:
- GenAI product strategy and roadmapping at scale (millions of users)
- Cross-functional influence without direct authority — a highly transferable leadership skill
- Hands-on fluency with foundation models, APIs, and rapid prototyping
- Commercialising AI features: adoption, retention, and cost modelling
Culture Signals: Envato has a values-led, relatively flat culture built over years as an independent company. The Shutterstock acquisition introduces corporate dynamics — expect some integration complexity but also access to larger resources and distribution. The emphasis on "not adding AI because we can" suggests a thoughtful, quality-focused product culture rather than a hype-driven one.
Green Flags: Clear ownership of strategy, real product scale, and a company genuinely invested in the space. Watch for: Post-acquisition cultural shifts and potential org restructures common after M&A events.
Help Shape What Creative Work with AI Looks Like Next
Generative AI is changing how creative work gets made — not just the tools people use, but how they riff from an idea to something finished.
At Envato, we're building for that shift. We already help millions of creative professionals find the assets and tools they need to create. Now we're bringing generative AI deeper into that experience, helping customers generate, edit and customise content as part of their everyday workflows.
We're looking for a Lead Product Manager, GenAI to help lead where that goes next.
This is a role for someone who is genuinely into this space. You're using the tools, trying new models, following what's changing and forming opinions about what is genuinely useful versus what is mostly hype — and you want the opportunity to turn that curiosity into products used by creative professionals around the world.
What You'll Do
You'll own the strategy for Envato's customer-facing GenAI experiences, identifying where AI can meaningfully improve creative workflows and taking opportunities from early signals through discovery, launch and iteration.
You'll spend time understanding how creative professionals actually work, experiment with emerging models and tools yourself, and build a strong point of view about where Envato can create something distinctive.
We want someone who likes making ideas tangible too. That could mean using AI to prototype a concept, vibe coding something quickly, or getting hands-on with a model to understand what it can really do.
From there, you'll work closely with Design and Engineering to turn the strongest opportunities into products that balance creative quality and usability with model performance, speed, scale and cost.
What We're Actually Looking For
- An experienced product leader who has owned strategy and roadmaps for customer-facing digital products.
- Deep, hands-on fluency in generative AI and generative media — you understand models, APIs and emerging capabilities well enough to work closely with technical teams, and you're already using AI in your own product work.
- An understanding of creative people and creative work. Our customers are designers, filmmakers, editors and creators. They care about quality and have a high bar for the tools they use. You need the judgement to understand the difference between an AI output that is technically impressive and one that is genuinely useful in finished professional work.
- Commercial mindset — comfortable using customer insight, data and experimentation to make decisions, and confident connecting product choices to adoption, retention, revenue and cost.
- Ability to lead through influence. This is a senior individual contributor role working globally across Product, Design, Engineering, external partners and senior leaders, including Executives. You'll need to communicate clearly, bring people with you and be comfortable making calls when there isn't an obvious answer.
Why Envato
There aren't many roles where you get to work at the intersection of creative professionals, generative AI and a global product already used at scale. We're not interested in adding AI somewhere because we can — we want to work out where it genuinely makes creative work better. And there is still a lot to figure out. That's the interesting part.
