Career & Market Insight

Entry-level defense contracting is a strong career on-ramp, especially for those interested in government finance, program management, or defense industry careers. This Junior Program Control Analyst role at MANTECH offers structured mentorship from senior staff, which is valuable at the early career stage.

Compensation analysis: The $47,900–$79,200 range is wide for a junior role. The lower end is below the national median for financial analysts (~$60,000–$65,000 entry-level), while the upper end is competitive. Actual pay will depend heavily on the applicable Contract Wage Determination—a government contracting mechanism that can set floor rates.

Skills you'll develop:

  • Federal government financial management and budget tracking — highly transferable to other GovCon roles.
  • Program control methodology, a niche but in-demand skill within defense contracting.
  • Exposure to USINDOPACOM operations and military budgeting processes.
  • Excel-based financial reporting — foundational but universally applicable.

Green flags: MANTECH is an established, publicly traded defense contractor (founded 1968) with strong DoD relationships. The mentoring structure is explicitly called out, suggesting investment in junior talent. Learning & Development benefits reinforce this.

Watch-outs: This is listed as a future opportunity, meaning no immediate opening exists—timeline to hire is uncertain. The Confidential clearance requirement is relatively accessible but is still a gatekeeping step. Career ceiling in pure program control can be limited unless you progress toward Program Manager or Contracts roles.
