Career & Market Insight

Career-Level Fit: This is a mid-to-senior role requiring 5+ years of frontend and 3+ years of WordPress expertise. It sits squarely at the intersection of frontend craftsmanship and CMS specialization — a niche that remains in consistently high demand at agencies and mid-market SaaS companies.

Skills Development: You'll deepen expertise in the WordPress/Gutenberg ecosystem (React-based blocks are increasingly standard), Drupal architecture, and crucially, AI-assisted development with tools like Claude Code — a genuinely emerging and marketable skill. Exposure to a multi-platform CMS environment makes your profile more versatile than a single-platform specialist.

Compensation Note: The CAD-denominated pay with commission is unusual for a developer role — it signals a client-services/agency environment where output may be tied to project delivery. Canadian mid-senior full stack developers typically earn CAD 80,000–110,000. Commission on top could be meaningful, but the structure warrants clarification before accepting.

Culture Signals: Brafton is an established agency (~15+ years) with global offices — expect process-driven workflows, client deadlines, and a collaborative but structured culture. This is not a high-growth startup; it's a stable agency environment.

  • Green flags: 100% remote, flexible schedule, pension, multi-country team exposure
  • Yellow flags: No published salary range; commission structure for a dev role is atypical and may add income unpredictability
  • Red flags: Agency pace can mean context-switching across many client projects simultaneously

Brafton is one of the world's leading content marketing firms, with offices in Boston, London, Toronto and Sydney. We aspire to continually raise the bar on what people consider "marketing content." We create result-focused strategies and content to drive SEO, social engagement and leads for our clients. Our teams continuously build expertise across new media formats, including video, blogs, infographics and web design.

We're looking for a Full Stack Developer who loves building clean, performant interfaces and knows their way around a CMS well enough to make the backend work for the frontend, not against it. You'll spend most of your time in HTML, CSS/SASS, and JavaScript — building custom Gutenberg blocks, theming, and pixel-perfect implementations from design mockups — while staying comfortable enough in PHP and WordPress/Drupal internals to troubleshoot, extend, and integrate when needed.

You'll work directly with our design and consulting teams to turn mockups into fast, accessible, well-crafted websites for clients across a range of industries.

What You'll Do
  • Build custom WordPress themes, Gutenberg blocks (ACF or React-based), and plugins from provided designs
  • Translate mockups into responsive, accessible frontend code using HTML, CSS/SASS, and modern JavaScript
  • Work within Drupal for client sites that require it — theming, content types, and module-level troubleshooting
  • Diagnose and fix frontend and backend issues across a variety of CMS platforms
  • Collaborate directly with designers, consultants, and occasionally clients to solve problems and refine implementations
  • Use AI tools like Claude Code to plan out and execute aspects of a large project
What You Bring

Must-haves

  • 5+ years of professional frontend development — strong HTML, CSS/SASS, and JavaScript fundamentals
  • 3+ years building and customizing WordPress sites, including Gutenberg block development (ACF or React-based blocks)
  • Solid working knowledge of PHP (7.x/8.x) — enough to read, debug, and extend WordPress/Drupal codebases confidently
  • Practical Drupal experience — theming, content architecture, or module-level work
  • Familiarity with WordPress hooks/filters and general LAMP-stack conventions (MySQL, Git)
  • Strong communication skills and comfort collaborating in a remote, client-facing environment
  • Familiarity with AI tools such as Claude Code

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with React or Angular
  • Laravel or Symfony
  • Docker and Linux environment familiarity
  • AWS or other cloud platform exposure
