Enterprise Engineer at Branch - Python & AI Workflows in Columbus
Career & Market Insight
Role Positioning & Career Trajectory
The "Enterprise Engineer" title on a Data team is a relatively niche but growing role at the intersection of internal tooling, automation, and AI workflow integration. This is distinct from a traditional Software Engineer or Data Engineer — it's closer to a "staff tooling engineer" or "platform engineer" focused on internal leverage. As AI tooling (MCP servers, LLM orchestration) becomes standard, this skill set is increasingly valuable.
Compensation vs. Market
At $120–125k, this salary is at the lower end of the market for a Python engineer with full-stack and API experience, particularly in fintech. Mid-level Python engineers at VC-backed fintechs typically earn $130–160k base in 2024–2025. However, stock options at a growth-stage fintech could meaningfully supplement total comp if Branch continues to scale.
Skills You'll Build
- MCP server architecture — an emerging, high-demand skill tied to the AI tooling wave
- API design with FastAPI/Flask — durable, transferable skills
- LLM/AI workflow orchestration (LangChain, deterministic prompting) — rapidly growing demand
- Internal platform engineering — valued at scale-ups and enterprises
Culture Signals
"Small, high-trust team" signals autonomy and direct impact, but also limited mentorship structure. The emphasis on "clarity and maintainability" suggests a mature engineering culture rather than move-fast-break-things. Multiple industry awards (Great Places to Work, Top Workplaces USA) are green flags for culture. The relatively tight salary band ($5k range) may indicate limited negotiation room — worth asking about equity and bonus in interviews.
