Engineering Manager at Boulevard - SaaS Career Growth in Columbus
Career & Market Insight
Career Growth Signals: This Engineering Manager role sits at a meaningful inflection point — managing 5–8 engineers across multiple domains (commerce, scheduling, customer engagement) gives you broad exposure to both technical architecture and cross-functional leadership. The blend of hands-on coding and people management is ideal for those building toward Director or VP Engineering tracks.
Compensation vs. Market Benchmarks: The $153,500–$216,500 range is competitive for a mid-to-senior EM role. Levels.fyi and Glassdoor data suggest Engineering Manager roles at Series B/C SaaS companies typically range $160,000–$220,000 in total cash, aligning well with Boulevard's offer. Variable comp and equity add upside, especially if Boulevard continues to grow.
Skills You'll Build:
- Async and remote team leadership — increasingly valued across all tech companies.
- Roadmap ownership and cross-functional stakeholder management with PM and Design.
- Elixir and React exposure — Elixir in particular is a differentiated, high-demand skill in fintech and SaaS platforms.
- Incident management and on-call culture — critical for senior engineering leadership credibility.
Company Stage & Culture: Founded 2016, operating in a niche but growing vertical (self-care SaaS). The emphasis on curiosity, experimentation, and diversity suggests a mid-stage startup culture with room for individual impact. The L&D "Boulevard Bucks" program is a green flag for employee investment.
Watch For: On-call rotation is explicitly mentioned — confirm scope and frequency during interviews. Breadth of domain ownership (scheduling, commerce, engagement) can mean context-switching overhead.
Who is Boulevard?
Boulevard provides the first and only client experience platform for appointment-based, self-care businesses. We empower our customers to give their clients more of the magical moments that matter most.
Before launching in 2016, our founders spent months interviewing salon managers and working behind front desks to understand their pain points so we could design a modern, user-friendly platform that meets the unique needs of their business. Our roots may be in hair salons, but we are built for the broader self-care industry, including many types of salons, spas, medspas, barbershops, and more. Our technology not only helps our customers survive but thrive. Take a look at how we (and YOU) can make that happen.
We have an insatiable curiosity and embrace experimentation. We believe that simple solutions require the most sophistication, and we design each and every detail to maximize potential, power, and impact. Do our values match? Read through our story and what we value the most.
