Career & Market Insight

This is a strong opportunity for qualified counsellors seeking to transition into or deepen their experience in Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) settings — one of the fastest-growing segments in corporate mental health.

Compensation context: No salary is stated, which is a minor red flag for transparency. EAP Counsellor II roles in the UK typically range from £28,000–£38,000 annually depending on experience and accreditation level. TELUS Health's benefits package (private medical, dental, pension, 26 leave days) adds meaningful value, potentially worth £3,000–£5,000 on top of base salary.

Skills you'll develop:

  • Brief solution-focused therapy (SFBT) — highly transferable and in growing demand
  • Telephone and video counselling — increasingly standard post-pandemic
  • Risk assessment across complex safeguarding domains
  • EAP platform and digital health technology fluency

Green flags: Mandatory external clinical supervision (at company cost), structured CPD, a multidisciplinary team, and a global employer with stability. The 2 wellbeing days on top of 24 days annual leave signals genuine attention to clinician burnout — a real concern in this field.

Potential considerations: EAP work is high-volume and brief-model by design (typically 6–8 sessions per client). If you prefer long-term therapeutic relationships, this may feel limiting. However, for building breadth of clinical experience quickly, a diverse EAP caseload is hard to beat.

Career trajectory: This role suits counsellors aiming for senior clinician, clinical supervisor, or EAP management roles within 3–5 years.
