UX Researcher Role at Match Group - Build UXR Skills in Columbus
Career & Market Insight
This role is a six-month temporary contract at Match Group (Affinity division), which means it's best approached as a portfolio-building or bridge opportunity rather than a long-term career anchor. That said, it carries real value for early-to-mid career UX researchers.
Skill development: You'll sharpen mixed-methods research — combining qualitative (user interviews, usability testing) with quantitative (survey design, analytics interpretation). These are among the most in-demand UXR competencies in 2024–2025, especially at B2C consumer tech companies. Cross-functional stakeholder communication skills will also get a workout.
Compensation context: No range is published, but hourly UXR contract rates in the US typically fall between $45–$85/hr depending on experience and location. The 1+ year experience minimum suggests this targets junior-to-mid level researchers. Full-time UXR salaries at comparable companies range $90K–$130K annually at that level, so ensure your hourly rate reflects the lack of job security and benefits overhead.
Culture signals: Match Group is a mature public company (~$800M revenue), so this isn't a scrappy startup. Affinity is a sub-division focused on niche communities (BLK, Chispa, Upward), suggesting a more intimate team within a larger corporate umbrella — potentially more ownership and visibility than a mid-level role at a large enterprise.
- Green flag: Mentoring PMs and designers on research practice — rare autonomy for a temp role.
- Yellow flag: Six-month term with no explicit conversion path mentioned — clarify conversion likelihood upfront.
- Green flag: Strong benefits package (even for temps, confirm eligibility) including parental leave and 401k match.
Match is hiring a mixed methods User Researcher (UXR) to drive research efforts across the dating and social connections space. In this position, you will partner with leadership, product managers, and designers using a variety of quantitative and qualitative research methods to identify new opportunities to improve the dating journey, validate product solutions, and help us understand the "why" behind the trends we see within our analytics data.
Affinity is a division of Match Group that is home to online dating apps like BLK, Chispa, and Upward where singles can connect based on what they have in common. Creating a sense of belonging doesn't stop at our products — it's the foundation of every team we hire.
This is a six-month temporary position with the option to work remotely.
How you'll make an impact:
- Conduct research initiatives that drive our brands towards making dating enjoyable and rewarding for singles, using rigorous qualitative and quantitative research methods.
- Foster a deep understanding of a variety of user segments for our Affinity apps in general.
- Generate actionable insights to drive stakeholder decision making for a range of initiatives, including innovative new bets.
- Communicate insights in compelling ways; bridge alignment across teams through written reports and in-person presentations.
- Partner with Design and Product to make research an essential part of our practice and culture (i.e., creating documentation on best practices, advocacy of methods, partnering and mentoring on tests run by design or PMs).
You'll love it here if you are:
- Excited to play a key role in improving dating for a number of different user segments with unique needs.
- Empathetic and curious — able to investigate complex and very human problems with minimal bias and ego.
- Have a strong analytical orientation and curiosity about research and its implications.
- Creative and flexible in your approach to answering questions.
- Passionate about conducting mixed methods research to create a more complete picture of the problem space.
We could be a Match if you have:
- At least 1+ years of experience conducting user research in a product environment (B2C or B2B).
- Experience conducting user interviews and usability testing (moderated and/or unmoderated).
- Experience creating surveys and analyzing the results to determine user attitudes and behaviors.
- Excellent communication and storytelling skills to share research to all audiences from designers to executive level stakeholders.
- Comfortable in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.
