Career & Market Insight

This is a high-value, niche role at the intersection of enterprise data governance and U.S. federal IT — a combination that commands premium compensation and long-term career leverage. The $152,000–$190,000 base salary, plus commission and equity, is competitive and slightly above average for a Senior Solution Architect in the DC/Virginia metro area, where federal tech roles carry significant clearance premiums.

Career development highlights:

  • Deep exposure to FedRAMP, FISMA, and GovCloud compliance — a highly specialized and in-demand skill set with limited supply of qualified professionals.
  • Hands-on work with Collibra, a market-leading data governance platform, plus AWS/Azure, Kubernetes, Spark, and Hadoop — a strong modern data stack portfolio.
  • Customer-facing consulting experience that builds both technical depth and executive communication skills, opening doors to Principal Architect, VP of Professional Services, or independent consulting tracks.

Green flags: Collibra is a well-funded, growth-stage enterprise software company with a recognized brand in data intelligence. The structured 30/60/90-day onboarding plan signals a mature, supportive environment. Commission eligibility on top of a strong base reflects confidence in revenue-generating potential.

Red flags to consider: The 100% on-site requirement limits work-life flexibility. Clearance-level roles can also create "golden handcuffs" — well-compensated but limiting career portability outside the federal sector. Candidates should evaluate long-term career trajectory carefully if they want to eventually pivot to commercial tech.
