Career & Market Insight

Career Trajectory & Seniority: This is a PhD-required Senior Data Scientist role within a dedicated Innovation Lab — a relatively rare setup that signals Experian takes R&D seriously. The reporting line is directly to a Sr. Principal Data Scientist, meaning you'll have a clear upward path toward principal/staff-level IC roles.

Skills You'll Develop: The tech stack covers the full spectrum of modern data science:

  • High-demand skills: LLMs, Generative AI tooling, PyTorch, TensorFlow — all among the most sought-after skills in 2024–2025 hiring markets.
  • Big data infrastructure: PySpark, Hadoop, NoSQL (HBase, Cassandra, MongoDB) — valuable for data engineering crossover.
  • Niche but valuable: GPU programming experience differentiates candidates in MLOps and deep learning deployment roles.

Compensation Context: No salary figures are listed, but Senior Data Scientists at large US tech/data companies typically earn $150,000–$200,000+ base, with bonus on top. Experian's Fortune 500 status and explicit bonus plan suggest competitive but not FAANG-level pay.

Green Flags:

  • Innovation Lab setting means genuine research work, not just model maintenance.
  • Multi-award-winning employer culture (Fortune Top 25 Workplaces 2025).
  • Flexible remote policy reduces burnout risk.

Watch For: The PhD requirement with only 2+ years of experience suggests this role is designed for recent PhD graduates rather than seasoned industry practitioners — which may limit senior candidates from non-academic tracks.
