Career & Market Insight

This is a high-ownership, early-stage role at a growing edtech startup — a strong fit for someone who wants to build a CS function from the ground up rather than inherit a mature playbook. Knowt serves millions of users, signaling real product-market fit, but the team is still small enough that you'll directly shape processes and culture.

Compensation: The $70K–$80K base plus 5–7% commission is on the lower end of market for a mid-level CSM in SaaS (industry median for 2–4 years experience is roughly $80K–$95K base), but the commission upside and early equity potential can close the gap. Negotiating at the top of the range is advisable.

Skills you'll develop:

  • K-12 edtech sales cycles and stakeholder management (a niche with strong demand as districts digitize)
  • Rostering integrations (ClassLink, Clever) — a technical CS skill valued across edtech
  • QBR creation and renewal/expansion ownership — resume-building for senior CSM or CS Director roles
  • Cross-functional influence: feeding product roadmap from customer feedback

Green flags: Clear scope, direct impact on millions of learners, and a role that can evolve into CS leadership as the company scales. Yellow flags: No mention of PTO policy, health benefits, or equity — worth clarifying before accepting. The commission structure is modest; ensure renewal targets are realistic.

About Knowt

Knowt is an AI-powered learning platform used by millions of students and teachers. We help students study smarter with flashcards, practice tests, and AI tutoring, and we give teachers tools that save them hours every week. Today we partner with schools and districts across the country to bring Knowt into classrooms at scale.

The Role

We're hiring our Customer Success Manager to own the relationship with the schools and districts that partner with Knowt. You'll be the person teachers and administrators call when they want to get more out of Knowt, and the person who makes sure every partner renews and grows. This is a high-impact role on a small team: you'll shape how we onboard, support, and expand our district customers.

What You'll Do

  • Own a book of school and district accounts from kickoff through renewal
  • Lead onboarding: rostering (ClassLink, Clever), admin setup, and teacher training sessions
  • Drive adoption by tracking usage, spotting at-risk accounts early, and running check-ins with admins and teacher leads
  • Manage renewals and identify expansion opportunities across schools and districts
  • Build usage reports and quarterly business reviews that show partners the impact Knowt is having
  • Partner with Sales on handoffs and with Product to turn customer feedback into roadmap priorities
  • Create help docs, training materials, and playbooks that scale as we grow

What We're Looking For

  • 2 to 4 years of experience in customer success, account management, or a similar client-facing role
  • Experience working with K-12 schools or districts, or a background in teaching
  • Comfort running presentations and trainings for teachers and administrators
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to juggle many accounts at once
  • Clear, warm, and direct communication over email, phone, and video
  • A data-minded approach to tracking account health and adoption

Nice to Have

  • Experience with edtech rostering and SSO tools (ClassLink, Clever, Google Classroom)
  • Familiarity with a CRM or CS platform (HubSpot, Salesforce, or similar)
  • Experience owning renewals or upsell targets

Compensation and Details

  • $70,000 to $80,000 base salary plus 5–7% commission
  • Full-time, fully remote (US-based)
  • Join an early team where your work directly shapes how millions of students learn
