Career & Market Insight

This is a solid mid-level estimating role within the UK commercial construction sector, ideal for someone with 3–5 years of experience looking to develop their craft before stepping into a Senior Estimator position.

Career development signals:

  • Working directly alongside a Senior Estimator provides strong mentorship and upward mobility within the estimating function.
  • Exposure to projects up to £5m in value across multiple sectors broadens your commercial awareness and tender experience.
  • Skills developed — cost planning, tender preparation, supplier management, reading technical drawings — are highly transferable across contractors, consultancies, and client-side roles.

Market context: Estimators with 3+ years of experience in the UK typically earn between £35,000 and £50,000 depending on region and company size. No salary is stated here, so it is worth negotiating based on your sector experience and software proficiency. The East Midlands market generally sits at the lower end of that national range.

Green flags: The role is clearly structured with a defined reporting line and well-articulated responsibilities, suggesting an organised business. The requirement for an HND or equivalent shows the company values formal construction education.

Watch for: No mention of benefits, progression timelines, or company culture. Ask during interview about team size, tender win rates, and opportunities to progress to Senior Estimator level.
