Danish Interpreter Contract Role - Build Language Career in Columbus
Career & Market Insight
This is an independent contractor (1099-style) position, not a salaried role, which means income scales directly with call volume and hours logged. For interpreters building a freelance portfolio, LSA's network provides steady inbound call flow without requiring you to source your own clients — a meaningful advantage for those new to the industry.
Danish is a relatively rare language in the US interpreting market, which typically translates to less competition and potentially higher per-minute rates compared to high-demand languages like Spanish. However, the posting does not disclose rates, so candidates should negotiate before committing.
Skills this role develops:
- Medical, legal, and social services interpreting terminology (industry-specific contexts)
- Professional conduct and confidentiality standards (CMI/CCHI-aligned)
- Real-time consecutive interpreting under pressure
Green flags: LSA was recognized as a Top Provider and Top Workplace in 2026, suggesting organizational stability. The continuous acceptance model means low friction to onboard.
Watch-outs: No guaranteed minimum hours or income — earnings depend entirely on call volume. Certifications (CMI, CCHI) are only "preferred," making this accessible to emerging interpreters, but investing in certification would meaningfully increase your market value and rate negotiating power over time.
