Career & Market Insight

This is a high-impact, senior individual contributor / leadership role at Vatica Health, a PE-backed healthcare SaaS company focused on value-based care (VBC). The Director title with a $150K–$175K range is slightly below market for Director-level product strategy in healthcare tech (typical range: $170K–$220K+ in major markets), though total compensation with bonus may close the gap.

Career development upside is strong:

  • Deep expertise in HCC/RAF, HEDIS/Stars, ACO economics — skills in acute demand as CMS continues expanding VBC programs.
  • Ownership of competitive intelligence and market validation positions you as a strategic authority, not just an executor.
  • Cross-functional influence across Product, Sales, and Marketing builds a broad leadership profile valued at VP level and above.

Green flags:

  • PE-backed stage means real resources and urgency — high visibility, faster career progression than enterprise.
  • Clear ownership boundaries signal a mature org structure (not chaotic startup).
  • Reporting to VP of Strategy & Operations — direct access to senior leadership.

Watch-outs:

  • No formal team mentioned — this may be a team-of-one role, which limits people management experience development.
  • "Discretionary" bonus language adds compensation uncertainty.
  • PE-backed environments can prioritize short-term revenue over long-term product investment, potentially creating tension with strategic work.

Ideal for a seasoned product marketer or strategy professional ready to own a portfolio-level function in a fast-moving healthcare SaaS environment.

The Director, Product Strategy sits within Solutions, reporting to the VP of Strategy & Operations, and owns the market intelligence, initial market investigation for new ideas, and portfolio inputs that connect strategy to revenue for the company's healthcare payer/provider business. This role is responsible for understanding the market landscape, investigating the market for new ideas before the company invests, and giving the commercial organization the market and competitive content it needs to win in every market it competes in — both today and as new products and capabilities come online.

You will work side by side with Solution Owners, who lead domain strategy, business cases, roadmap, and launch delivery, by bringing the cross-portfolio market view and early validation that strengthens their decisions. You will also partner closely with Marketing and Commercial Enablement, who lead brand, external messaging, demand generation, and sales readiness, by supplying the market evidence, competitive insight, and subject-matter content they build from.

Responsibilities

  • Inform product strategy by forming and advocating a point of view on where the company should invest next, drawing on market sizing, competitive intelligence, and in-market validation, in partnership with Solutions leadership.
  • Support new idea business cases by conducting the initial market investigation (market size, buyer demand, willingness to pay, competitive position) that Solution Owners use to write the case, delivered in a standard brief.
  • Lead cross-portfolio product positioning with Solution Owners for current offerings and new capabilities as they near launch, partnering with Marketing, who translates it into messaging, brand, and external content.
  • Design and run in-market validation by sourcing signal directly from prospects, customers, and advisors to pressure-test market assumptions for new ideas, positioning, and go-to-market assumptions before and after launch.
  • Run structured win/loss reviews and prospect and customer feedback programs, and feed the findings into competitive intelligence, new idea market investigations, and product strategy.
  • Monitor competitive moves, positioning, and market shifts and own competitive intelligence for the company — including maintaining competitor profiles and battlecard source content and implications for product and positioning.
  • Partner with Solution Owners and Marketing to translate new capabilities into clear value propositions and internal sales narratives for the commercial organization, with Marketing adapting approved narratives for external use.
  • Build and maintain market/segment views (buyer personas, willingness to pay, competitive moat) to inform product and GTM strategy.
  • Develop launch readiness plans for new product launches, including positioning inputs, launch sequencing, and content needs, coordinated with Marketing's external launch and enablement plans.
  • Support enablement content and planning for the commercial organization: provide subject-matter source content (competitive intelligence, segment and persona briefs, solution value narratives) and input on enablement priorities for launches and releases.

Requirements

  • 6+ years in product strategy, market intelligence, product marketing, or strategy at a health plan, provider organization, healthcare tech/SaaS company, or healthcare-focused consulting firm; direct VBC/risk adjustment/quality domain experience required.
  • Direct experience with risk-bearing provider organizations or health systems, either vendor-side (servicing them) or customer-side (working inside one).
  • Track record of leading market investigations for new products and executing go-to-market strategies for new product launches or market expansions.
  • Experience developing sales-facing source content (competitive intelligence, playbook inputs, talk tracks) for enterprise B2B sales teams, working with an enablement function that owns delivery.
  • Fluent in HCC/RAF, HEDIS/Stars, ACO economics (MSSP/ACO REACH/LEAD), payer-provider data workflows.
  • Comfortable engaging directly with external stakeholders (prospects, customers, advisors) to gather market signal — and not just synthesizing secondary research — ideally through structured win/loss or voice-of-customer programs.
  • Strong written and verbal communicator, able to translate complex product capabilities into clear, compelling sales and executive narratives.
  • Strong cross-functional collaborator, comfortable partnering across Product, Sales, and Marketing and operating within clearly defined ownership boundaries.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence peer-level and more senior domain owners without formal authority, and to deliver independent analysis that holds up under challenge.
  • PE-backed or high-growth SaaS experience strongly preferred.
