Career & Market Insight

A Rare Ground-Floor Leadership Opportunity: The Bank Head of FP&A role at Affirm is a true greenfield build — Affirm Bank is in its formation phase, meaning you'd be architecting the finance function from scratch. For senior finance professionals, this is the kind of foundational role that can define a career.

Compensation vs. Market: At $164K–$245K base (plus equity at USA Grade 8), this is at or above market for a VP/Head of FP&A at a publicly traded fintech. Comparable roles at similar-stage companies typically range $170K–$220K base, making the high end of Affirm's range competitive. Equity upside in a publicly traded company (AFRM) adds meaningful optionality.

Skills You'll Build:

  • Bank/regulatory capital management and stress testing — highly specialized and transferable to banking and fintech CFO tracks
  • Team building from zero — invaluable for future C-suite roles
  • Cross-functional executive influence at a fintech unicorn
  • Exposure to fintech lending and payments P&L dynamics

Green Flags: Remote-first culture, transparent pay structure, 100% subsidized health coverage, and ESPP signal a mature, employee-friendly organization. Reporting directly to the Bank CFO offers strong executive visibility.

Watch For: "Formation phase" ambiguity means role scope may shift significantly. The 8+ year experience bar with 5+ years of people management is senior — this is not an individual contributor stepping up, but a proven leader. Fintech/banking regulatory familiarity will be critical as the bank matures.

Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly, giving consumers the flexibility to buy now and pay later without any hidden fees or compounding interest.
