Career & Market Insight

This Account Manager role at Halter sits at the intersection of AgTech SaaS and field sales — a niche that is growing rapidly as precision agriculture becomes mainstream. The skills built here (customer success, hardware deployment, rural relationship management) are highly transferable to other fast-growing AgTech or IoT companies globally.

Compensation context: No salary is listed, which is a yellow flag. Account Manager roles in New Zealand AgTech/SaaS typically range from NZD $70,000–$100,000 base, often with performance bonuses tied to retention and expansion targets. Given Halter's Tier 1 investor backing (Founders Fund, Bessemer), compensation is likely competitive, but candidates should negotiate clearly.

Green flags for career development:

  • Backed by world-class investors — strong signal of growth stage and potential equity upside
  • Personal growth fund explicitly mentioned — company invests in employee development
  • High autonomy environment builds self-management and entrepreneurial skills
  • Direct product feedback loop — rare exposure to product teams builds cross-functional experience

Potential concerns:

  • No salary transparency — requires negotiation
  • "Rocket ship" culture language can signal burnout risk in high-performance startups
  • Frequent travel is demanding and may not suit those seeking work-life balance

Overall, this is a strong early-career accelerator for someone wanting deep AgTech exposure with a credible, well-funded company poised for significant scale.

This is an opportunity to positively disrupt an industry and pioneer groundbreaking change, working with some of the highest-performing dairy farms in New Zealand.

Serving as the primary point-of-contact for Halter customers, you will be passionate about driving farmer success for one of the world's fastest-growing companies. You will be backed by a team of exceptional people on the ground in the North Island and at Halter's Auckland HQ.

Location: This role is to be based anywhere in the Upper Waikato region, including Morrinsville, Matamata, Hamilton. Frequent travel is required as part of the position.

What Your Day Could Look Like

  • Account Management: Renew customer agreements and expand revenue of existing Halter customers by adding value in every interaction to drive on-farm goals and performance.

  • Deployment: Support the onboarding, training, and implementation of the Halter system on customers' farms, ensuring all relevant farm owners, managers, and workers can successfully use the system.

  • Community & Networking: Represent the Halter brand with pride, lead local discussion groups, and proactively build strong networks within the community for increased brand visibility and connections.

  • Customer Advocate: Act as the voice of the customer, bridging the gap with our product teams to provide important context about what is happening on the ground with farmers and their animals.

  • Technical Expertise: Work closely with our product teams to provide technical and practical advice from a farmer's perspective on reproduction, pasture, and agronomy.

Contribute to a positive team environment, supporting others to succeed and role-modelling Halter's Operating Principles.

Who We're Looking For

We're backing potential over polish. These are the traits that matter most:

  • A great human first: You bring integrity, humility, and care. You do what you say you'll do. You show up for your farmers and your teammates.

  • Lifelong learner mindset: You're genuinely curious. You ask questions, seek feedback, and are excited to keep levelling up alongside a world-class team.

  • Hunger and grit: You love chasing ambitious goals, solving hard problems, and sticking with it when things get tough.

  • Positive energy and team spirit: You lift the people around you. You enjoy collaborating, sharing ideas, and celebrating others' wins as much as your own.

  • Comfort in a fast-moving environment: You're at your best when things are dynamic. You can work autonomously, manage your time well, and stay focused on what matters most.

Advantageous (Not Prerequisites)

  • 3–5 years of experience in relationship management or account management roles.

  • Experience in dairy farming or within the agriculture sector, with a deep passion for helping farmers succeed.

  • Strong business and commercial acumen.
