The meetings arrive just days before an Aug. 1 deadline set by President Trump's June executive order — a directive requiring federal agencies to develop a framework for evaluating advanced AI models before they are released to the public.

The executive order, signed in early June, gives frontier AI developers the option to let the federal government review their models for up to 30 days before release. While participation is voluntary under the order, Skadden's analysis of the measure notes that non-participating companies may find themselves at a disadvantage in pursuing federal contracts or accessing government cybersecurity resources.

The work-setting profile of these roles also stands out: 54 percent are hybrid and 31 percent are fully remote, making AI governance one of the more location-flexible paths in a market where many in-demand functions have pulled headcount back on-site.

Demand for AI governance skills grew 150 percent year over year, according to separate data from Ayautomate's 2026 governance jobs analysis. Mid-career manager roles at larger organizations are clustering between $140,000 and $218,000, with director-level positions reaching well above that range.
